Bat starts on his shoulder with hands low but brings his bat angle up as his hands move back. Outward stride. Quick twitch actions with extension through the zone. Solid round with hard contact towards the middle of the field. Defensively, took his reps behind the dish. Top velo of 76 MPH on throws, pop times ranged from 1.95-2.07 seconds. Transfer by his chest with a quick release. Strong, on target throws. Stays low when making throws.
Santiago possesses a lean and athletic build at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.43 seconds with an exit velo of 86 MPH. At the plate, starts in an athletic stance with his feet slightly open. High, hanging leg kick. Hands move sightly backwards at the last second pre pitch. Smooth weight transfer. Aggressive swing. Natural lift on his swing. High finish. While catching, was able to record a top velo of 72 MPH and pop times ranging from 2.09-2.19 seconds. Wider base when making throws to bases. Quick transfer by his chest. Short, efficient arm action and stays on top of the ball.
Physical- Lean, athletic, 6-foot, 170lbs frame. 7.14 runner in the 60.
Offensively- Starts in an athletic stance with bend in the knees and his weight on his backside. Hands are level with the shoulders with some loud hands pre-pitch. Hands work back on load along with a small leg kick for timing. High-intent swinger, uppercut swings generating lots of balls hit in the air. Good extension with a one-handed finish, max exit velo of 82 MPH.
Defensively- Traditional catcher’s setup with feet just wider than his shoulders. Gets wider in throwing situations and gets out of the crouch quickly driving off his back leg. Soft hands, clean transfers, uses a short arm stroke and a high ¾ arm slot to release. 2.04-2.17 pop time, 72 MPH arm strength from the crouch.
