Jupiter 2016
Maryland commit. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound lefty sat 87-88 in Jupiter and topped at 90 against Team Evoshield. Wilden worked predominately off his 87-88 mph fastball that had significant arm-side run and peaked at 90. His low-80s changeup had fading action, and also showed the ability to throw his 78-80 mph slider for strikes. The arm works free and easily from a high-3/4 slot with a simple, repeatable delivery. Wilden pounded the lower-half of the strike zone while hitters pounded the ball into the ground, rolling five groundball outs with no flyouts. Wilden matched LSU-bound 2018 Landon Marceaux pitch-for-pitch through three innings, throwing 29 of his 43 pitches for strikes.
9/26/15 -- Wilden, once again, showed the upside that makes him a highly touted 2017 left-hander. Bouncing between games, Wilden was solid when I was able to lock in. His velocity was 79-84 miles-per-hour with angle and his curveball was 73-75 MPH with sharp bite. He has compact arm action which could be cleaned up and repeated better with more consistent hand break and tempo. He needs to improve upon his pick-offs, looks, and holds as well.
7/28/15 -- Wilden's stuff was much improved at All Out's scout day. He remained relatively low effort at was 82-86(87)MPH with his fastball and his curveball had some late bite at 71-75. The only area that Wilden struggled with was command, as his timing between his lower half and arm swing seemed to keep him up in the zone with the two-pitch combination.
6/21/15 -- Wilden is a smooth LHP with very good pitchability. He pitched brilliantly against a quality Diamond Jacks Super 17 club giving up 2 runs over 5 innings, scattering only 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5. He low effort, smooth mechanics with repeatable direction towards the dish. He only occasionally flies open to his glove side. He pitched with his velocity between 79-83 and utilized a curveball that was 70-73 MPH with sharp bite to it. He has a short, more compact arm action with good arm speed.

3/15/16 - With 51 strike-outs in under 35 innings last year, Drew Wilden is a player that jumped onto the scene in 2015.  The left-hander with a fastball up to 87 MPH is another in a long line of recent Maryland-commits.  His short, quick arm-action makes for the ball to jump on hitters, and also allows him to throw a fairly hard curveball.  His smooth mechanics are easily repeated, and allow him to be consistently in the zone.  Expect for the velocity to take another step forward this year, but his curveball is even more intriguing.  It is a swing-and-miss pitch, and nearing plus classification.
