Martorano stands 6-foot-2, 180-pounds and is very athletic for his position (catcher) evidenced by his ability to run a sub 7.0 60-yard dash. Shows an above average arm with a clean transfer, pop times in games constantly around 2.0. Hits form a slightly open stance with a heel lift for timing, simple load with a short path to the ball, some lift in his swing with shoulder high extension. Projectable next-level prospect.
9-1-2018: Six-foot-two, 195 pounds. Hits from an open stance. Showed easy, all fields above average raw power in batting practice. Got to it during the games going the other way for a home run and a double in the right-center gap on one of my looks. With the power production comes swing/miss; 33.8% strikeout rate this summer and 26.7% last spring for the Tar Heels. Above average arm strength with a quick release, he has flashed a plus arm at times. Fair accuracy, footwork can get sideways and off-line. 2.10 POP time in the Cape. Likes to back-pick and has a knack for it. Fair success throwing out runners last spring; 11-37 (29.7%). Currently a below average receiver, but does project to become an average one; has the hands and the feet. Will need to polish it up and improve upon four errors in 18 games this summer for Brewster and nine passed balls last spring. (Seifert)
