4/19/17
Virginia recruit. Currently ranked No. 2 in New Jersey's 2017 class, and 74 Overall. Part of the PBR Draft 100. One of the top right handed pitchers in the country, and a legitimate two-way prospect at the next level. Lean, lanky-athletic build. Sat 88-90 in the first few innings on a cold, rainy day. Showcased two different breaking balls – sharp slider with smaller break at 77-79 mph and a bigger 12/6 breaker at 69-70. Athletic balance point with some fluidity going down the mound. Repeatable mechanics. High-3/4 arm slot. Creates extension over front landing leg on release. Commanded both sides of the plate with fastball and breaking balls. Went a CG, 6 H, 12 K against Don Bosco Prep on 4/19/17.

Jupiter 2016
Sat 87-90 and flashed a 73-76 mph breaking ball - a pitch he can add and subtract velocity, depth, and break from.

4/17/16 -
Ortiz showed tremendous pitchability on this night, sitting 85-87 and touching 88 late in the ballgame against a very good Delbarton lineup. He got many swings and misses on his FB, and was able to locate extremely well late in the game. Also, shows an impressive range on his breaking ball - anywhere from 70-77 MPH. He threw the slower version as a get-me-over multiple times in traditional fastball counts, and then went to the harder, later breaker in two strike counts. Ortiz went a CG shutout against a Delbarton squad that touched up a very good Don Bosco team earlier in the week.

3/15/16 - The clear #1 prospect in NJ’s 2017 class, Ortiz can dial up his fastball to 91 MPH routinely, and his athletic frame is filling out, and shows signs of more to come. He throws from a mid- ¾ arm slot, with a curveball that has good 11-5 shape, and he really understands how to pitch.  His bat is nothing to look past, and some see him locking down the hot-corner in Charlottesville.  Regardless of where he plays in the field, Devin Ortiz will be another in a long list of superb two-way Virginia talents.
