Comments
Goehrig had another excellent day on the mound, striking out three of his five batters faced. He has a good amount of arm side run and sink at 80-83 miles-per-hour and his breaking ball had some sharpness to it; 10-to-4 in shape at 65-67 MPH. He's a right handed hitter who has a rotational swing. Thanks to his physicality, he has some raw power, but his swing needs to be more directional to have a chance to really hit quality pitching. He looked much more smooth defensively but needs to work on his foot work and upright fielding. His upside is on the mound and he should be a good one.
NJ Open (August 5, 2015)
Goehrig is a 6-foot-2, 195 pound RHP/3B from Paramus Catholic. He has broad shoulders and an already physical frame. Offensively, the 2017 prospect hits from the right-side using a tall stance, creating separation by rocking his hands backwards during his load. He has some bat speed and strength in his swing, driving balls to his pull side. He created a 90 mile-per-hour exit velocity off of the tee. Defensively, he showed raw fielding mechanics that may profile as a solid high school 3B with added reps.
Goehrig is a pitcher at the next level. He keeps it simple and easy mechanically and keeps great direction towards home plate. He has a clean traditional, long arm action with some good arm speed. He threw a heavy fastball that sat 81-84 (tops 85) miles-per-hour. His breaking ball was 67-68 but showed nice bite and tight spin. The velocity of his breaker could pick up as he learns to throw it with more arm speed. It is a potential out pitch. His changeup mimicked his fastball and had late downer action. He has a solid three-pitch mix with big potential on all three.
