8/15/22

Cape Cod: Shined as a freshman at Coastal, posting a 2.25 ERA, then took a step backward as a sophomore (6.19 ERA). He flashed quality stuff in the Harwich bullpen this summer, sitting at 91-93 mph in his first inning of work, then dropping to 88-89 in his second frame in our look. A stocky, strong 6-foot, 202-pound righty who drives the ball downhill from a straight over the top slot, Sharkey complements his heater with a quality big, sharp downer curve at 75-77 and a decent slider at 80-81 that spins into the 2500s. It's a pure bullpen profile, but Sharkey should be a key piece for the Chants next spring.

4/11/19

Florida State recruit. Lean, athletic frame at 5-foot-11 175-pounds. Fastball topped at 90 MPH with the first pitch of the game, and sat comfortably at 87-88 touching 89 a couple times. Showed an 11/5 CB for strikes with swing-and-miss potential at 70-72 and a change at 67 MPH. Slow, methodical start to delivery, into a tall, athletic balance point. Hands go below the belt as he starts then up around his back shoulder as he closes himself off a touch to create some torque just before he descends down the mound. Uphill shoulders at foot strike and a long, loose arm action from a high-¾ slot. Final line: 5 IP, 8 K, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP. Impressive outing against a tough Ocean Township team.

2/17/18

Florida State recruit. Sharkey has a strong and athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.57 seconds. Recorded an exit velo of 92 MPH, one of the tops at the event. At the plate, starts in an even stance with his weight slightly shifted onto his frontside. Hands begin above shoulder height, away from his body. Elbow stays parallel to the ground. Hands stay locked in position during his load. Small leg kick, stays on time. Swings with controlled aggression. Smooth weight transfer. Present barrel awareness. BP round was full of hard contact, showing off clear gap-to-gap power. Defensively, he took reps in the outfield. His velo from the OF was 90 MPH, also one of the top numbers of the day. Approaches the baseball under control, and created momentum towards his target after fielding the ball. Transfers the baseball away from his body at midsection height. On the mound, Sharkey starts tall with his feet together and staggered on the first base side of the rubber. Mechanics are smooth and repeatable. Arm action is long and loose. Releases the ball from a high 3/4 arm slot. Rides his backside down the mound. Soft brace leg. Closes off his upper half and creates rotational torque towards the plate. Stride direction stays in line. Feet are closed and front foot is inverted in the stretch. Fastball topped at 86 MPH and sat 84-86 MPH. FB had downhill angle when Sharkey was able to get on top. Curveball displayed big 11/5 shape with swing and miss potential out of the zone at 67-68. Changeup had both run and fade at 70-71 MPH.
