Southern Tier Sluggers Workout

Rutkowski, a 2019 right-handed hitting middle infielder/RHP, stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 165 pounds, ran a 7.84 60, which was 0.16 quicker than the previous event. Offensively- Starts with a balanced square lower half some lean to the back side with the hands in front of the back shoulder and barrel of the bat slightly less than 45-degrees while resting on the back shoulder. Gets to the launch phase of the swing with a buggy whip movement with the hands with the barrel of the bat getting perpendicular to the ground with some wrap towards the pitcher as the lead foot is lifted with a moderate stride towards the pitcher while landing the the lead toe. Peppered the ball up the middle during batting practice, with the hands staying compact and direct to the ball, however could improve the exit velocity of 79 MPH, a jump of 6 MPH from last event. Defensively- Moved to the ball with good body control, fielding the ball from the center to left side of the body. Had a tendency to allow the ball to get deep into the body while fielding. Transfer was quick, but could allow the lead arm and throwing arm to work more in sync. While the throwing arm is working down to up, the lead arm starts to pull away horizontally causing the release to lack extension. Registered an arm velocity of 70 MPH, and increase of 6 MPH from last event, which should continue to improve with an ability to be more consistent from the power position to release. Pitching- Works from the center of the rubber with the hands rested and set from the center of the body chest height. Gets into the gathered phase of the delivery with a moderate step towards the first base line while the pivot foot is elevated and moved to the first base side of the rubber while the hands remain chest with little to no movement and the lead knee is elevated above the waist with the bottom of the foot remaining parallel to the ground. Sticks the landing with the lead foot landing on the heel while the back leg gets extended and lead elbow stays tight to the body with no horizontal pull. The fastball, thrown from a mid ¾ arm slot, was worked to both sides of the plate as well as both corners, showing some arm side run while topping out at 73 MPH, which was an increase of 1 MPH from last event. The changeup, showing quality arm side run and fade, topped out at 68 MPH (-5 MPH from the fastball) which was a little better differential (-2 MPH) from last event. The curveball, topping out at 63 MPH, showed loose 12-to-6 shape but stayed down in the zone.

Southern Tier Open (August 5, 2015)
Stands at 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, with an athletic body build.  He ran an 8.00 60 yard dash.  Defensively- He has a good approach through the ball, with smooth hands, throws with a low 3/4 arm action, plays through the ball, and has accuracy on the target.  His arm strength was 64 MPHOffensively -At the plate his setup is relaxed and balanced stance, short stride, with a back load.  His hands are very compact, swinging on a level plane with good extension.  His exit velocity was 73 MPH. Pitching- Adam maintains a compact delivery with a long and loose arm action. Was able to keep the ball down while sitting in the 71-72 MPH range. Works both sides of the plate with his fastball and gets some arm side movement from his low 3/4 arm slot. Slider is more "slurve" like in the 64-66 MPH range with some early action. Change up, although too hard (70MPH) showed some splitter like movement often, diving below the knees as it approached the hitting zone. For a young arm, Adam has a good idea of what he's doing out there and it will be worth seeing how he progresses.
