Individual Player Evaluation (October 15, 2015)
Alex is a well built 5-foot-10, 170 pound 3B/RHP who runs a 7.63 60 and had an exit velocity of 81 MPH. Offensively: Alex hits from a spread stance utilizing a double toe tap for timing. Bat angle starts in the 30 degree range and levels out early in the hitting zone. Does a nice job of keeping his hands inside contact and accelerates through the ball. Line drive results with some pop through the middle of the field. Defensively: Alex uses a low to the ground setup at 3B, moves well to his left and gets hands out in front. Works through the backhands and showed a serviceable arm from the left side. Improved agility, first step quickness and overall arm strength will only help. Secondary projection on the infield would be at second base. Pitching: On the mound Alex was able to command three pitches and change speeds. Delivery wise he uses a simple side step to a compact balance point. Rides back leg into landing with a transfer of momentum upon landing. Would like see more core rotation and and extended finish to the plate (falls off towards 1B line). FB sat in the 70-71 range with some sink. Curveball had early action but a big sweeping break with some 2-8 shape. Changeup maintained a positive spread and stayed down in the zone.
