9/15/22

High pitchability left-hander Ben Seiler got the starting nod on the mound for the Hoosiers. The 6-foot-6 junior worked easy from a high slot, filling the zone with 88-89 mph fastballs, low-80s changeups and a couple tight-actioned breaking balls that varied between 72-78, depending upon the shape. All of his pitches were released from the same window as he breezed through one inning of work in the evening.

5/01/18

6-foot-5, 250-pound left-hander. The fastball has run, sat at 84-86, touched 87. The spin pitch is excellent, 74-76 mph with plus depth. The changeup is still a work in progress, 80 mph, too hard at times. The delivery is online, the slot is slightly above 3/4 and clean. Good feel for pitching and upside for the future.

4/01/18

Threw a no hitter with an impressive 14 punch outs. Got eyes on him in the 5th inning where he touched 85 MPH with a fastball, works downhill.

8/20/17

6-foot-6, 255 lbs, strong and physical build, well-proportioned. Long arms and thick legs help on the mound. A left-handed pitcher, Seiler’s durable frame should allow him to log innings at the next level. He throws from a higher slot with deception. The hands start high before dropping to the waist, wherein he starts a moderate leg kick. With his height helping him get downhill on his pitches and natural ability to hide the ball from opposing batters until its release, Seiler can be tough to handle at the plate, and it showed during game action as hitters failed to square him up. His fastball sat mostly 82-85 mph during his time on the hill, with natural tail on the pitch. It is a heavy ball when he is working in the lower half of the zone. The curveball has an 11/5 shape and was thrown between 69-73 mph, could be described as big and bendy. Can still tighten the break to make it even more effective. He also works in a developing slider from 77-79 mph. The pitch is inconsistent, flashing the potential to be a swing-and-miss offering when it is sharp and looping over the heart of the plate when off. Will need to refine the pitch moving forward.

6/25/17

Solidly-built 6-foot-3 250-pound left-hander who is just tapping into his power with a fastball at 79-81 MPH, hides ball well combined with late movement consistently induces weak contact, still has more room to engage lower body which will only increase velocity; maintains release point with a 2-to-7 curveball shape, still learning how to use height to create downward plane.

5/01/17

Fastball sat 83-84 MPH most of the game. The breaking ball was 69-70 and the slider was 73-74. Didnt show much of a changeup. 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and moves well of the mound. The delivery is online and he shows a good feel for the spin and strike zone.

7/26/16

Big bodied left-hander from New York, stands 6-foot-5, 250-pounds. The arm works nicely and is short on the back side. There is a lot to like about this guy, but there is also a great deal of work to be done on his end. The fastball touched 82 mph with left-handed arm-side run on it. The slurve pitch, which has an excellent shape to it, is 71 mph. The changeup is a work in progress at 70 mph, the fade and turnover are still in the making. The delivery is athletic, at times, the leg lift is different, disrupting his timing. The glove side has minimal pull to it as he attempts to stay on target. Has feel for pitching and should be a guy down the road. If this guy makes a commitment to pitching and works at his frame, lookout.
