Schmidt stands 6-foot-0, 180-pounds with a strong looking lower half. He uses good rhyme and tempo in his delivery, side-step, high knee lift, hands are high around his head. Uses hip and shoulder separation, long stride down the mound, arm action is long and slightly towards the SS. His front shoulder is on an uphill plane, back side lower. Releases the ball from a high 3/4 slot, fastball range of 78-80 mph (81 this summer) attacking inside on righties. Curveball has both command and bite. Throws it for strikes in the mid 60's, sharp and out-of-the-zone around 70. Overall, great feel for attacking the zone with his fastball chewing up RHH's, looked extremely tough on lefties as well with a breaking ball diving away from the bat. With some added FB velo, Schmidt will be on of the top LHP in the state.
East-West Battle (July 2017)
Compact/athletic frame. Sat 79-81 MPH with some depth to breaking ball (67-69). Composure; stays around the plate and add/subtracts off his fastball well.
