8/02/20

Physical: Durable and well put together 6-foot, 188-pound frame with strength in the actions. 7.28 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: LHH. Wide, even stance as the hands showed quick rhythm above the shoulder. Utilized a move backwards upon load coupled with a toe-tap stride to initiate a quick and whippy, slightly uphill barrel path with lift through the hitting zone. Was repeatedly on time at the front of the plate with an advanced feel for the hands in the box, fluidity throughout the stroke showing high level swing patterns and ability to manipulate the barrel depending on which quadrant he’s thrown into. Adjustable and athletic lower half allowed him to match plane early and often on the pitch and stayed on the offspeed well shooting it through the middle of the field. Showcased a mainly pull-side approach during batting practice while leaving the yard twice down the RF line, recorded a peak bat-exit velocity of 96 mph according to Trackman Baseball / maximum batted ball distance of 348 feet. Demonstrated the hit tool in game action accruing multiple knocks against high level pitching including a few extra base hits to the RCF gap, should be force in the middle of a collegiate lineup down the road.

Defensively: The primary first baseman featured a medium-low center of gravity, adequate feel around the bag with a soft glove hand that played off of the right side of his body, got downhill through the baseball, picked out good hops to attack and showed active footwork / range to the glove hand side. Accurate, high ¾ slot across the diamond with some carry. INF - 79 mph

7/06/20

Defensively: OF: Starts with his right foot ahead in an athletic position, INF: Starts low and wide; OF: Controlled, consistent footwork on approach, INF: Smooth footwork around the bag. OF: fields the ball ahead of his glove foot, INF: fields the ball in the middle of his body. OF & INF: medium arm swing, high 3/4 arm slot.  INF - 83 MPH. OF - 84 MPH.

Defense:  pop times. OF: Controlled approach; fields ball outside of glove foot. Pro step crow hop. INF: Low to the ground setup; hands out in front with shorter, traditional infield arm action.
Arm: Moderate arm swing; with a high 3/4 arm slot. INF - 81 MPH. OF - 82 MPH.

9/22/19

Offensively- the left handed hitter was impressive at the 2019 Fall Top Prospect Games. Hopko sprayed the baseball all over the field in batting practice. Short simple load actions. Flat path through the hitting zone. Hopko stays balanced throughout the swing. Defensively- as an outfielder, Hopko has an aggressive approach to the baseball. Stays under control. Displayed a smooth exchange to a high 3/4 arm slot on throws to the plate. At 1B, Hopko moves well around the bag. Displayed a smooth funnel actions. Takes his time to gather himself when making throws across the diamond. Hopko is a player to follow.

6/25/19

Has an athletic strong build at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Ran a 7.46 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- The left handed hitter stands in the box in a tall stance with feet shoulder width apart. Displayed loose hands. Throws his hands into the hitting zone. Ball jumps off the bat, low effort. Displayed some pull side pop. Gets good use of the lower half. Stays balanced throughout his swing.  The top exit velocity was 93 MPH. Defensively- In the outfield, shows active footwork. Gets himself in a good position behind the baseball. Shows a quick smooth transition and throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  The top throwing velocity was 79 MPH. As a first baseman gets in a low wide stance when fielding the baseball. Moves well laterally. Has a smooth transition and throws from a mid ¾ arm slot. Gets rid of the ball quickly. The top throwing velocity was 78 MPH. The 2022 graduate is a must follow.

2/15/19

Hopko stands a strong 5-foot-11, 180-pounds with room for more physical gains from the freshman. In the box the lefty uses balance during his approach, a long back load on the pitch for timing, hands are compact and short to the ball, generates above average bat-speed (89 mph) while keeping barrel control to the gaps. In the OF he uses a quick first-step, keeps the ball in front of his body, no issues on the transfer, release comes from a clean 3/4 arm-swing that shows carry (79 mph) with arm-strength projection. Very nice looking 2022 from the Southern-Tier to keep eyes on.
