Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Hipsman stands 5-foot-10, 158-pounds with a slender athletic frame that should fill out well over the next few years. Ran a 7.02 60-yard dash with above average tools across the board. Offensively- From the left side, sets up about shoulder width and uses a smooth leg kick stride while loading hands with good tilt in the bat. Separates well during load and gets great whip through the zone producing bat-speed. Had the highest Exit velocity (91-mph) of all 2018 players at the Preseason All-State Event. Defensively- Showed off great athletic ability and sound footwork in the outfield. Worked through the ball smoothly, and spotted up an 85-mph position arm-velocity from the outfield with long carry. The Chester Academy sophomore Lefty has a high ceiling and will be a top prospect to watch in New York state for the next few years.
Futures Games (July 2015)
Well put together outfielder who stands at 5'9" 155lbs. Ran an impressive 6.78, showed some arm strength at 77 MPH and featured an 82 MPH exit velocity. Offensively- John hits from an upright setup and slightly open. Flattens the barrel slightly during load phase while gaining some ground forward and back to even with stride. Stays short into the zone and accelerates through the zone. Showed some pull side pop but yet can cover the whole plate. Defensively- John was very impressive in CF, can cover the gaps well and gets a tremendous read and first step. Next level center fielder for sure who may have the arm strength to handle right field when it's all said and done.
