Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Athletic build at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Runs well for his position evidenced by his 7.15 60-yard dash time. Defensively he uses a simple appraoch, open glove, short arm action, low release, 2.08-2.14 pop-times in the workout. Slightly open stance in the box, low leg lift, mostly level barrel plane, 84 mph exit velo off a tee, high finish.

Preseason All-State West (Feb. 19, 2018)
Maher stands at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds. Ran a 7.28 60, which shows athleticism for his position. This is also an improvement from last February where he ran a 7.59. Offensively- Slightly opened stance with hands held at shoulder height. Slight toe tap to engage with minimal stride. Swing plan flat through the zone with a slight incline following contact. Exit velocity recorded at 78 MPH which is a 5-MPH increase from a year ago. Defensively- starts with an even square base. Comfortably received the ball with a smooth ball to hand transfer with a pop time ranging from 2.09-2.15. Arm at a high 3/4- slot measuring 73-MPH arm strength. Maher could benefit from off-season strength training to continue to increase arm his bat and arm strength.

Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)
Maher, a 2019 right-handed hitting catcher currently ranked as the 17th best catching prospect for the class of 2019, stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 155 pounds, ran a 7.59 60. Offensively- Starts with an upright slightly open lower half, slight bend with both knees, with the hands in front of the back shoulder while the barrel of the bat angled 45-degrees. Gets to the launch phase of the swing using a slight lift of the lead foot with a moderate stride towards the pitcher, while the hands, using a buggy whip motion and loading straight back outside the back shoulder with some elevation, get the barrel of the bat perpendicular to the ground. Drove the ball from gap to gap during batting practice, keeping the hand path compact. Also did a very nice job of keeping the hands behind the rotation of the hips which allows the swing to stay in proper sequence. Recorded an exit velocity of 73 MPH on the day. Defensively- Starts with a square balanced lower half, with the knees and shoulders slightly angled to the throwing arm side. Received the ball with a quiet body, using a flick and turn technique to present the ball in the lower third of the zone. On throws to second base, the transfer is from the height of the chest and center of the body, however allows the glove hand to cast away from the body before the transfer takes place. Does an excellent job of keeping the lead arm strong and in front of the body from the power position to the release. Projectable catcher, that showed good arm strength and accuracy, with some minor tweaks to help the transfer, the pop time of 2.15 and arm velocity of 70 MPH should improve quickly.

Diamond Pro Workout (January 14, 2017)
Maher has a lean frame at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds with easy, fluid actions. Recorded a home to first time of 4.3 seconds. Offensively- Starts with a narrow stance and front foot very open. Bat has wiggle from back to front with hands at shoulder height. Uses a toe tap stride and lands back to even. Hips are rotational to ball. Swing path is short and inside-out contact. Produced a lot of opposite field results. Had an exit velocity of 71 MPH. Defensively- Set up high in stance with body turned towards 1B. Feet swing towards third base on throws, limiting momentum created towards target. Transfer is smooth with a quick release. Pop times were recorded at 2.11-2.18 seconds with 63 MPH velocity with carry. Pop times could be improved with slight mechanical adjustments. Proper technique used to block ball and recover.
