April 2018
The 5-foot-10 165 pound second baseman had a top shelf week for Vestal. Over 4 games he was 8 for 14 with 4 2B, 2 BB, 6 R, 3 RBI.  At 2B, Carr (R/R) has seen a lot of action with some hard throwing pitchers on the staff inducing hits to the right side of the infield and is 21 for 22 on fielding chances.  He is off to a great start for Vestal.

Southern Tier Sluggers Workout

Carr, a 2018 right-handed hitting middle infielder, stands at  5-foot-10 and weighs 165 pounds.
Offensively- Starts with slightly open balanced lower half, some weight shifted to the back side, with the hands above the shoulder with the barrel of the bat, with some wrap towards the pitcher, slightly greater than 45-degrees. Initiates the swing with a lift of the lead foot with the hands loading straight back, slightly outside the back shoulder, while the barrel of the bat wraps further towards the pitcher and lead gets locked at the elbow. Gets the whole lead foot down, keeping the lead hip in, while the hands are compact and straight to the ball staying behind the rotation of the hips. Displayed a line drive approach from gap to gap during batting practice, while registering an exit velocity of 84 MPH on the day, a new personal best (+2 MPH from August).  Defensively-  Little to no pre-pitch movement, with a wide lower base and hands below the waist straight down. Approaches the ball with small choppy steps, fielding the ball from the center of the body however at times will allow the ball to get deep. Transfers the ball from the waist, after the footwork has begun, which causes a bit of disconnect between the upper and lower half. With an ability to transfer the ball quicker and ahead of the footwork, the body should stay in better sequence which would help create more carry and accuracy on throws. Registered an arm velocity of 70 MPH on the day, which was an 11 MPH increase from August. Projects to stay on the right side of the infield at the next level.
Eastern NY Prospect Preview (August 2, 2016)
Carr stands in at 5-foot-9; 160 pounds with a lean athletic frame. Recorded a 7.30 60. Offensively- Sets up square to the pitcher with feet just outside his shoulders. Slightly bent at the knees with weight shifted back and his hands held high above the back shoulder. On pitch his trigger is a knee lift to step forward while his hands move down and back into a good hitting position just behind the back shoulder. Hands are quick to the hitting zone with good barrel angle going through the hitting zone. Good lower body rotation with a high one handed finish. Swing is fluid. Recorded an exit velocity of 82 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork. Transfer from glove to hand is ok. Tends to get rid of the ball extremely quick while stopping momentum; causing him to throw uphill. Will improve with a better infielder arm swing and more aggressive movement towards throwing target. Moves to the left/right well. Recorded a positional velocity of 59 MPH.
