6/23/16 - Continues to impress here. On Wednesday, Holmes did it with his bat and speed; on Thursday it was his defense and speed. The common denominator being his speed. The exceptionally athletic 6-foot-2, 173-pound Mississippi State recruit tracked a lot of ground in centerfield to snag a drive by SS Mark Vientos (Flanagan HS, FL). He gets excellent reads off the bat and makes difficult plays look routine. Offensively, he went 0-for-3, but continued to show a simple, direct approach to the ball with little swing-and-miss.
6/22/16 - Was one of the biggest winners of the day. The ultra-athletic 6-foot-2, 173-pound Mississippi State recruit went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while patrolling centerfield for the United squad. Holmes, who’s one of the top outfield prospects in the 2017 class, smoked a triple on an 89-mph fastball – his feet barely touching the ground as he ran the bases. He also singled up the middle the first pitch he saw to open the game. The right-handed hitter ran a 6.45 60 during Tuesday’s workout.
2/18/16 - Barely touched the ground in his 60-yard dash as he glided to a 6.39 and 6.44. He then showed a smooth, easy swing in BP and made solid contact.
10/25/15 - Went 1-for-3 with a single. On a couple groundouts, despite being slow out of the box, he got down the line in 4.3 seconds.
2/20/15 - Holmes a 6-foot-2 175-pound outfielder who has a tall athletic lean showed impressive foot work while playing the ball off to his glove side and attacking the ball aggressively. Quick exchange and gets through the ball well. Arm velocity was 84 mph, that tops the charts with outfielders. Arm-action is down and long with an over the top arm-slot, smooth free and easy. Quick and above average hand speed. Next level projection. At the plate he stands wide hands above the ear and loads back to the pitch. Stride is short and balanced. Bat stays level through the zone as his hands work inside the ball. Hips and shoulders stay closed and get’s full extension on the ball. Finishes well over the shoulder with great power and balance. Exit velocity 87mph and home to first time 3.97 which was the best at our event.
