Comments

6/28/21

Physical: Strong, durable 6-foot, 180lb frame with compact proportions that translate to success. 7.47 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH - Balanced, even stance as the hands operated lower in rhythm to start. Utilized a toe tap stride on-time with a stretched move back to the shoulder; initiated through a short, flat path into the hitting zone, flashing some rotation in the swing and an easy pull-side approach during batting practice. Posted a 40% fly ball rate (via Trackman) with lift in the swing after impact, able to stay behind the ball and backspin to the middle of the field at times for big distance (344 foot max, doubles power). Then added a T95 mph bat-exit velocity, consistently barreling the ball up at the front of the plate for leverage. Middle of the order traits and good, early connection.

Defensively: The primary infielder featured confident actions at the hot corner, shuffling to the spot and beating the ball with active feet; gathered out in front with a soft glove hand funneling inward to the chest. Showcased ready pace and worked in-line, releasing from an accurate H ¾ slot (82 mph arm, carry). Able to maintain balance when throwing across his body on the run.

7/06/20

Physical: Strong and athletic 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. 7.50 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH. Even, narrow stance with slight front shoulder lean in the upper half of the setup as the hands show rhythm by the ear. Utilized a toe-tap stride to initiate a flat barrel path into the hitting zone. The hands played well through the baseball as he contacted the ball with regularity at the front of the plate. Short and quick hands can adjust to offspeed pitches in game evidenced by multiple hits during the NY State Games on pitches out over the plate. Recorded a top of 90 mph bat-exit velocity per Trackman Baseball and a max distance of 332 feet during batting practice.

Defensively: The primary third baseman featured consistent feet working around the ball, getting the hands out in front of his body at the catch point, funneled the ball with regularity into his stomach. Medium arm swing with a high effort, high 3/4 slot.  3B - 79 MPH.

2/18/20

Physical: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Strong, athletic frame. 7.77 runner in the 60; 4.51 home-to-1B.
Offensively: RHH. Upright stance with slightly bent knees, hands are high above shoulders with a level bat, hands work back with a small stride for timing Barrel path is quick and direct, gets on plane early, great extension through contact. Hard contact up the middle. 86 MPH raw exit velocity.
Defensively:  Consistent foot working around the ball, fielding the ball out in front of his body in the middle of his body, funnels ball into his stomach. Medium arm swing with a high effort, high 3/4 slot.  INF - 76 MPH.

9/22/19

The 2022 graduate was impressive at the 2019 Fall Top Prospect games. At the plate, the right handed hitter displayed a simple approach at the plate. Impressive batting practice round with hard consistent contact. Mason does a good job staying balanced and using his lower half. Mason worked out at 3B during the defensive portion. Mason stays under control when approaching the baseball. Does a good job staying square to the baseball. Gets rid of the baseball quickly from a mid 3/4 arm slot. Mason showed improvement in his throwing velocity with a 74 MPH best across the diamond.

7/30/19

A strong build at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. Offensively- the right handed hitter stands in the box in a wide base. Short simple load actions. Quick path to the baseball. Displayed hard consistent contact. Exit velocity was 85 MPH. Defensively- the 3B showed active footwork. Aggressive approach to the baseball. Gets in a wide base when fielding the baseball. Above average funnel actions. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot. The 20022 graduate has upside and Mason is one to follow.
