May 2016
Monroe CC commit ranked No. 95 (28 position) in New York State. Max fastball of 86 that Marketell touched at last fall’s showcase is becoming more of a reality in game; big frame (6-5, 185 pounds); free and easy motion; tremendous upside; could easily see him adding additional velocity as he develops; commands secondary pitches and is confident using them in all counts.
Border Battle (October 18, 2015)
Ryan worked today only on the mound. His 6-foot-5 frame is all legs and has plenty of levers. Works downhill very well with down action to all of his stuff. Repeats delivery, staying fairly compact throughout a clean but shorter arm action then expected for his length. Change up holds it's plane with good deception. Breaking ball featured some 2-8 action. For him to take the next step it will be to show increased command and confidence with his secondary pitches. High level long term projection as he has the tools and framework to continue to develop well beyond HS.
Unsigned Senior Showcase (October 3, 2015)
Marketell stands 6-foot-5, 185-pounds with a lean, projectable frame. Making his biggest jump, and most impressive outing through three-events, Marketell is starting to prove he has an upper-level arm. Fastball comes out of a short, but clean arm action, pretty loose whip at 80-83 maxing out at 84 twice and 86 once - There’s more in the tank. Changeup shows good fastball hand-speed ranging in the low 70’s.
New York Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Standing at 6-foot-5, 165-pounds with an athletic body. Defensively-Stays deep with glove and hands, potential as a fielder with more work, quick release at a low-3/4 arm slot. Offensively-At the plate stance is relaxed and has good balance, keeps hands short to the ball with no load and short stride to the pitch. Keeps bat level through the zone to some uphill tilt with mid-section finish. Some projection as a hitter with more hard work. Pitching- He uses a sidestep, hands are high when he starts. He uses a high knee lift, clean arm from a low-3/4 slot. Fastball sits 82 mph with little effort, curveball 63 with an early hump, changeup was 71 with good hand speed. Marketell has all the makings of a special talent on the mound. His velocity is close, I wouldn't be surprised to see him mid-80's this summer.
Preseason All-State Showcase (February 2015)
Marketell stands 6-foot-5, 165-pounds with a great projectable body. Offensively- At the plate he loads back on the pitch, slight stride. Barrel drops to the ball some, short path, uphill plane, long extension, shoulder height finish. Exit velocity was 82 mph. Defensively- At SS he keeps the ball in front, move well for his size running a 7.1 60, hands are smooth, transfer is quick. Throws from a mid-3/4 slot. With added strength his arm velocity will increase, look forward to watching him this spring. Pitching - Wide shoulders and strong legs, could easily hold more weight.  Long but slightly choppy arm action, with a High ¾-arm slot.  Got hit when 4-seem (79-81) was flat in the zone.  2-seem showed good arm side sink.  Curveball was loose at times, but when thrown correctly, showed sharp late depth, 11/5 shape.  Good glove action, finishes well over front side. Keep an eye on him.
Pro Holiday Clinic (December 2014)
Marketell stands a lanky 6-foot-5, 165-pounds. Defensively- From SS he stays behind the ball, open face glove, uses a clean funnel. Quick arm action, throws from a low-3/4 slot, arm strength at 73 mph. Signs of more velocity are all there. Offensively-At the plate his setup is tall and relaxed. On the pitch he loads back, powers hands short to the ball, barrel stays slightly uphill, long extension out in front, nice high finish. Exit velocity 76 mph off a tee. He ran a 7.1 60 showing impressive athleticism, especially a player with his height. Pitching-He uses a smooth delivery from the mound, very high knee lift, hands high. Hands break over the rubber, long (back towards 2B) arm action, works free and easy. Throws from a low-3/4 slot, clean arm whip, needs to get over his front knee more, working on his flexibility with aid in that.
