8/02/16

Murphy checks in at a thin 6-foot-0; 155 pounds. Pitching- Working from the glove side of the rubber; displayed a long and loose arm action from a low ¾ arm slot. Plenty of hand speed and whip. Hesitates into pivot step with a top of the chest balance point. Can land on his heel and spin off to 1B side, perhaps causing his breaking ball to flatten some today (more slider like; hand getting underneath due to his body running away from the arm). FB sat 84-86 MPH; 2S consistently at 84 MPH with arm-side sink/run. Curveball was more lateral today; coming across the bottom of the ball at 73-76 MPH; did not posses same sweeping action it did at the NY State Games. Change up checked in at  74 MPH .Produced plenty of awkward swings without his stuff being as sharp as we’ve seen it. High ceiling to be had as he’ll only add to his frame at the next level.

6/25/16

Murphy is a slender 6-foot-0; 155 pounds with  frame that can withstand physical gains. Pitching- Sets up center rubber; sliding pivot foot to the 1B side during drop step (with a hesitation). Center chest balance point from the windup, using a modified slide step from the stretch. Closes off slightly to the the 3B side; working through a low ¾ arm slot; creates tough angle to RHH. FB sat 84-86 MPH; touching 87 MPH. Was able to command both sides of the plate and keep the FB down. High end pitchability. Slider/Slurve was 70-72 MPH with 2-to-8 action and flashed a change at 72-73 MPH. Handled the game; fielded his position; worked runners; doubled up on pitches and locations; had a plan.

4/28/16

Lean Frame-flexible, fluid ; Started versus John Jay; 5 solid innings-5 k’s; FB range consistent 83-84 (topped at 84 MPH); CB range 70-71 MPH (more sweeping than vertical); also threw a slow curve at 66 MPH; needs work on command but does throw free and easy with solid mechanics.

4/15/16

Throws Right; Did not Bat; Athletic frame; Came out of the pen and threw 2 innings of 6-1 defeat over North Rockland. FB range 82-84 MPH; CH range- 72-73; slow curve range 66-67 MPH. Average command of all offerings.
