New York Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Skyler checks in at 5-foot-9 175 pounds; running a 8.00 60 (personal best; 7.88). Offensively- Ohrvall sets up in a slightly spread stance; hands just off shoulder with a calm take back. Stride gains ground with slight shift of the weight pre-contact; swing path for the most part stays direct with a cross body finish. Game action produced bottom â…“ contact on the first two days but adjusted well on day 3 with line drive contact. Exit Velocity improved 5 MPH from Jan. 2016 to 80 MPH. Defensively- Stays behind the ball well;gathers momentum through the ball. Could benefit from additional aggression with approach. Increasing back leg drive will help get body into a better throwing position. Arm strength was at 78 MPH (+9 improvement from indoors in Jan. 2016). Plays the game hard; improved foot speed will be a must to compete in the outfield.
NY State Open ID (January 31, 2016)
Skyler has an athletic build at 5-foot-9 160 pounds. The OF ran a 7.88 60 and a had a 4.59 home-to-1B. Offensively- Skyler sets up in a balanced and even stance with a short load back with the bat barrel at 45 degrees. He uses a short stride with a heel lift while staying behind the ball into contact. Hands lead the swing but he stays inside contact well. Would benefit from a more assertive lower half. Line drive/flyball results and showed the ability to use the whole field. Exit velocity peaked at 75 MPH. Defensively- Skyler stays behind the ball well with good acceleration once he has the ball. Gathers himself within the crowhop and accurate with throws. Positional velocity was 69 MPH. Will need to improve foot speed/arm strength for next level outfield play but has a good skill set with a scrappers mentality.
