Above Average build, lean frame standing 6-foot-0, 160 with time to add weight. Attacks the ball, body stays behind the ball, whippy arm action, some carry on the ball at 81 mph from the OF. Slightly open stance in the box with a balanced approach at the plate. At times front shoulder pulls out, when he's short and direct to the ball there's some pull-side juice, quick hands, quiet lower half, 83 mph exit velo.
Preseason All-State WEST (Feb. 19, 2018)
Standing at 6-foot-0, 160-pounds with an athletic build, LaPlante impressed last Monday at our Preseason West event. In the box, he swings from the left-side showing a shoulder width stance with a relaxed bat. On the pitch he uses a medium length stride, loose fluid barrel swing, path has some lift with a full extension, shows consistent contact and enough bat-speed to shoot the gaps. Defensively, very aggressive to the ball showing off his athleticism, glove to hand transfer is quick, arm-strength is average to slightly above with accuracy to the target. Overall, LaPlante is close to breaking out, improvements in his arm-strength and at the plate will only increase his stock. Look forward to seeing him this spring/summer.
WNY Academy Stars (November 18, 2017):
Laplante stands in at 6-foot-0, 160-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- Lefty sets up square to the pitcher with a simple stride utilizing a level barrel path. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side. Smooth, fluid swing with a lot of room for growth. Recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork towards the baseball. Smooth fielding mechanics with a good transition from glove to throwing hand with an appropriate outfielder arm swing. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 82 MPH.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
WNY Travel Workout (January 16, 2017)
LaPlante checks in at 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Recorded a time of 4.2 seconds from home to first base. Pitching- Starts with feet close together on third base side of rubber. Side step to the right as left foot toe taps onto rubber. High, quick leg kick that comes to top of chest at balance point. Drop and drive on back leg. Long stride that lands in line with home plate. Arm circle on backside pauses and then restarts behind body. Arm slot is straight over the top with head pulling to side to get arm through. Finishes forward over front foot. Fastball was in the 76-77 MPH range. Also threw a curveball at 64-65 MPH and change up at 72-73 MPH.
