Purdue commit Jack Sokol showed why he was one of the more sought after prospects following the Future Games. At 6-4 175-pounds, Sokol fits the mold of a young, projectable, big-bodied pitching prospect. Sokol’s fastball ranged between 85-88 mph, sitting mostly at 86-87 mph. The fastball showed minimal movement but did show some promising arm-side run on a couple pitches. He also threw a slurvey breaking ball at 71-72 mph. The slurve had showed decent spin and shape. Presently isn’t above average but it shows potential. He also threw a slider, which acted as the better of his two breaking balls. The slider was thrown harder at 74-75 mph and it showcased average to above average lateral break. That said, it was his changeup that served as the ultimate differentiator. It was arguably the best changeup we saw at the event. He threw the pitch between 76-78 mph and it showed sharp arm side run. It also flashed swing and miss depth on a few pitches.

Just like his brother, Jack also turned in his most impressive outing to date. Breaking ball was sharp, slider was as good as we’ve seen it and fastball had a new high at 87 mph. Showed the ability to use all three offerings to get ahead of or put hitters away. Starter type that continues to be a high follow for D1 mid major and power 5 wise.

Sokol turned in one of his better performances to date. Fastball had more life and breaking ball was sharper than what we saw at TPG. Jack sat 82-85 mph with the heater while using his breaking ball as the out pitch, filling up the zone with both offerings as usual. Continues to remain a high follow and one of the more projectable arms in his class.

6-foot-3, 170-pound, Long limbed prospect with a projectable frame. Uses a drop and drive type delivery that requires regular effort. Shows feel for all three of his pitches. The fastball works out of a ¾ slot at 79-83 MPH with some run when thrown to the arm side. Breaking ball works off the same tunnel with 11/5 shape at 69-71 MPH with some depth. Sokol also featured a 74-75 MPH changeup, the pitch is thrown with fastball arm speed as shows cutting action near the zone.

The 6-foot-3 hurler has a prototypical pitcher’s frame with a high waist and long levers. Delivery is easy/repeatable as arm travels through a high-¾ slot. Showed a bit more velo than we’ve seen in bullpens, sitting in the 82-84 mph range while running it up to 86 mph. The combination of his cleanliness and minimal effort allows him to carry velo deep into his outing. Offers both a changeup and breaking ball for his secondary repertoire, with the change up being the more developed of the two offerings presently. Breaking ball is playable and should sharpen up as velo climbs.

Definite D1 follow. Long, lanky frame at 6-foot-3, 170-pounds. Shows easy arm action with smooth tempo to his delivery. Looks like he is playing toss. 4-seam fastball is straight. Good arm side run with two-seam fastball. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed at 75-75 mph. Keeps it down in the zone with good command of the pitch. Good two-plane action with tight spin to breaking ball AT 64-66 MPH Creates good depth to the pitch. Although future is likely on the mound he also shows intriguing tools as a position player. Shows some upside at the plate with feel for the barrel and long limbs that allow him to do damage when extended. Path is slightly downhill with above average natural tools through the zone. A line drive swing presently with much more to come as he add strength to frame. Behind the dish he has fluid actions with feel for the spot. Exchange skills are clean with quickness to his hands. Shouldn’t come as a surprise that arm plays as a big tool back there.

Very projectable frame with a ton of room to fill out. A high upside arm in the 2020 class who should be a high follow for college programs. Impressed with stuff and pitchablity. Arm is clean and arm strength is apparent as the ball comes out well with little effort. Fastball will show regular run, sitting 79-83 mph. Offers a breaking ball and changeup for his secondary arsenal. Changeup was very impressive, displaying late action with a fastball look out of the hand. Consistently was able to keep the pitch in the zone at 73-76 mph. Also spins an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with developing depth at 64-68 mph. At the plate he swings it from the right side, starting in a balanced setup. Loading sequence is fluid and simple. Path is level with natural loft at times. Ball comes off well and he has much more in the tank as he matures physically. Present gap pop. Topped out at 80 mph off the tee. Worked out in the infield. A third baseman with soft hands. Actions are smooth and athletic prior to fielding. Plays low and does a nice job of fielding the ball out in front of his body. It shouldn't be a surprise that arm shows well in the infield after his performance on the mound. Also worked out in the outfield. Showed rhythm to his feet and played through the baseball efficiently. With frame and arm (82 mph to home plate) he likely ends up in the corners at the next level. Behind the dish he recorded pop times of 2.09-2.16 and threw with 76 mph arm strength to second base. Ran a 7.93 60-yard dash.

11/18/17
A definite arm to follow in the 2021 class with arguably the most upside at the event. Sokol stands 6-foot-4, with a ton of physical projection left on his body. Syncs up his delivery surprisingly well considering his age and length of his frame. Physical signs point to him adding much more velocity over the next few years. Presently sits 78-79 mph with the fastball that was mostly true through the zone. His best secondary offering may have been his changeup. The pitch was regularly in the zone with late, arm side life. Also has an 11/5 shaped breaking ball in his repertoire.

A right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Loading sequence is fluid and efficient. Barrel gets going early through a fluid bat tip load. Lower half is smooth and creates energy. Path is level and barrel gets on plane early. Uses the whole field, showing gap to gap pop. Should see easy increases in pop as he fills out his projectable, athletic frame. Signs point to a middle of the order bat at the next level. Defensively, his footwork is still developing. Could benefit by playing through the ball more, carrying momentum towards the target. Transfers were clean and quick. Fields the ball on his heels then funnels to his waist. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with above average arm strength. On the mound, the right handed pitcher starts from a taller setup. Delivery is fluid and repeatable. Uses his lower half to generate momentum. Front foot lands open on strike. Releases the ball from a ¾ slot with a long arm action. Fastball stays downhill and occasionally shows 2-seam action. Curveball comes in on a 12-6 plane with some sharpness. Rounds out his arsenal with a changeup thrown with similar arm speed. Offering has some late drop.
