Hit: Slight open stance. Balanced setup with a smooth loading sequence. Slightly uphill path creates lift.
Power: Strong in the box. Gap to gap skills with pull side pop on occasion.
Offensive Projection: Middle of the lineup.
Top Rapsodo BP Exit Velocity: 91 mph.
Top Rapsodo BP Distance: 306 ft.
Field: Shows comfort in stance behind the plate. Footwork has definitely improved. Shows the ability to pick it at first base as well.
Throw: Above average arm behind the dish. Ball comes out quick through a ¾ slot.
Defensive Projection: C.

6/03/19

Body Type:  6-foot-1, 170-pound athletic frame.
Swing Mechanics:
Balanced load into the lower half. Hands work well.
Hit:
Uphill bat path that creates some top spin. Handles the low pitch well. Nice combination of strength/bat speed.
Power:
Gap to gap pop.
Offensive Projection:
Middle of the lineup guy.
Field:
Could clean up feet to cut pop down even more.
Throw:
Arm works well.  Good arm action. Ball jumps out of hand.
Defensive Projection:
C.

2/17/19

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 170-pound athletic, lean build.
Swing Mechanics: Balanced stance producing an uphill swing path with plenty of intent with a leg kick.
Hit: Made nice contact overall throughout his round hitting some shots flashing power pull-side.
Power: 92 mph exit velocity. Power in his bat that was evident in swings he took on the field.
Offensive Projection: Multiple.
Field: Pop time was 1.97-2.03 seconds. Actions behind the plate were quick and efficient. Transfer occurred with ease and hard effort coming out of the crouch up to release. First base glove work was nice and has average footwork.
Throw: 71 mph down to second base. Throws came out easily on a line behind the plate. At first base he threw it 76 mph across the diamond. Gets rid of it quickly when turning two.
Defensive Projection: Catcher
Additional Comments:  Abilities are definitely playable at both catcher and first base. Still has time to develop both skill sets but on the right track currently.

2/03/19

Body Type: 6-foot-1 170-pound prospect.
Swing Mechanics: At the plate Johnson showed good barrel control with a swing initiated by a leg kick. Swing was a bit long at times. Showed an uphill bat path and an athletic finish.
Hit: Good barrel control and bat to ball ability.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: Shows athleticism to his swing. Should be a guy with gap to gap power. Could develop more raw power as he fills out his frame.
Field: 1.91-2.01 pop time. Behind the plate he showed solid footwork with a good, clean exchange on his throws. Could help himself by getting his arm action a little more compact. Still showed a quick arm. At 1B checked the boxes with decent feet and feel around the bag.|
Run: 7.18 60 yard dash.
Throw: 73 mph from behind the plate. 72 mph across the diamond.
Defensive Projection: Presently shows more long term projection if he stays behind the plate. Still has room to improve with basic skill work but the basic athleticism is there.

1/26/19

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 170-pound strong, athletic frame.
Swing Mechanics: Balanced, open stance. Uses a short stride for timing as barrel launches from a vertical setup.
Hit: Aggressive swinger with feel for the barrel. Squared up everything in BP, showing the ability to drive the ball with authority. Strength and bat speed are both obvious in swing.
Power: 95 mph exit velocity. Can drive it all over the yard. One of, if not the loudest BP of the day.
Offensive Projection: Run Producer.
Run: 4.41 home to first.
Field: 1.94-2.0 pop times. Good athlete back there. Ball comes out quick and clean. Also worked out at first base where he showed an above average skills set.
Throw: 73 mph to second base. Ball is firm and on target. His 81 mph velocity from first base could indicate there is more left in there.
Defensive Projection: C w/more than enough of a skill set to play 1B if need be.
Additional Comments: Johnson continues to build on a strong summer.

1/21/19

Body Type: 6-foot-1, 170-pound strong, athletic frame with room to add.
Swing Mechanics: Tall stance prior to getting into leg kick timing mechanism. Hands stay quiet throughout load.
Hit: Balanced swing with intent behind each stroke. Path has some loft allowing for natural lift of the baseball. Made regular hard contact with the ability to use all fields. Impressive feel for the barrel.
Power: 90 mph exit velocity. Physical kid with above average bat speed. Ball jumps off the barrel. Has the look of a guy who will hit his fair share of doubles with the occasional ability to run one out of the yard.
Offensive Projection: Run Producer
Run: 7.09 60-yard dash.
Field: Stood out behind the dish. Made it look easy back there in bullpens and showed above average catch/throw abilities.
Throw: 1.94-2.0, 73 mph from the crouch.
Defensive Projection: Catcher
Additional Comments: Liked what I saw from Johnson. Physical bat with an above average skill set across the board behind the dish. Definite college future.

7/24/18

A right-handed hitter that starts in a tall stance. Load is simple/fluid leading to a balanced launch. Swings with intent on a slightly uphill plane. His path allows for natural lift of the baseball. Can do damage when squared. Hit a few moon shots in BP with present gap pop. At first base he gets off the bag with clean, athletic feet. Does a nice job presetting throwing lanes on double play balls. Quick transfer with glove side turn. Ball skills are solid. Good athlete for the spot. Also a capable defender behind the dish. Blocks/receives on an average to above average clip and shows a big arm back there.

Catcher Velocity: 73
Infield Velocity: 76
Exit Velocity: 91

7/17/18

A righty swinger that starts in a tall, open stance. Load is simple yet efficient. Back leg launch with an uphill path to contact. Doesn’t get cheated up there. Generates above average strength and bat speed inside his intent driven swing. Has some minor path issues to clean up but ball flies when he connects. Took one of the louder BPs of his group. At first base he plays with feel and brings above average athleticism to the spot. Moves well around the bag, covering more ground than most. Plays fast and with confidence. Solid defender over there. Also doubles as a backstop where he showed above average catch/throw abilities in game.

Infield Velocity: 79

5/30/18

A righty swinger that starts in a tall, open setup. Shows a slight back load with hands during his leg lift for timing. Path is level with noticeable strength through the zone. Can pull off the baseball at times but shows gap abilities when he stays inside the baseball. Run producer qualities. Worked out behind the dish and at first base. Behind the plate he starts in a mid crouch before getting out of stance with fluidity. Feet and exchange skills are on par for class with arm strength being area for improvement. At first base he gets off the bag well, showing more range than most. Ball skills are adequate for the spot. Looks comfortable over there.

Home to 1st: 4.25
Pop Times: 2.12-2.22
Catcher Velocity: 68
Infield Velocity: 67
Exit Velocity 84

5/31/17

A right-handed hitter that starts in a taller setup. Takes his hands to launch during his short stride. Path is level with some bats peed in there. Gets on plane early giving him a large margin for error in timing. Produced line drives to both fields and was at his best when he worked the middle. Behind the plate he starts in a low crouch. Has flexibility in his hips and gets out of his crouch quickly. Footwork is quick and creates solid direction. Transfer skills are above average for his age. Arm strength would be area for improvement. At first base he brings above average athleticism to the position. Moves off the bag well and creates throwing lanes with his footwork on double play balls. Glove skills are above average at this stage.

Catcher Velocity: 64
Pop Time: 2.27-2.38
Exit Velocity: 81

12/11/16

A 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect. Ran a 7.82 60-yard dash. A right-handed hitter that starts in a tall, open setup. Uses a knee pinch to load his lower half while keeping his hands relatively simple. Showed strength through contact with above average bat speed. Bat path is level and he consistently found the barrel in batting practice. Reached a top exit velocity of 79 mph. Behind the plate he threw to second base with 65 mph arm strength, registering pop times of 2.41-2.47. Also worked out a first base where he showed adequate glove skills and the ability to make plays on the move. Threw across the infield with 63 mph arm strength.
