Matthew Graveline: C/3B, (2022) Centerville, OH. Ohio State Commit, 6-foot-2, 185-pound. In the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 94 mph. (65.7 mph bat speed average). (21.8 mph hand speed average). Started in an athletic tall stance with a controlled load, then used a small leg kick. Bat speed is quick, has a simple upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Behind the plate, his strong arm produced efficient throws to second at velocities up to 85 mph; had a fluid transfer, soft hands, and rhythmic footwork. had quick feet and transfers on his throw downs, recording a 1.81-1.89 pop time. Clean setup with some flexibility. Used a very quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.91.

Matthew Graveline: C/3B, (2022) Centerville, OH. Ohio State Commit, 6-foot-2, 180-pound. Laterally, his movements were athletic. Behind the plate, his strong arm produced efficient throws to second at velocities up to 83 mph; had a clean fluid exchange, next level hands, and athletic footwork. Displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.86-1.92 pop time. Athletic setup with tons of flexibility. Showed a high ¾ slot and a very quick arm action. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.91.

2/23/20

2/23/20 Position Player
Hit: Right handed hitter. Has a more upright setup in the box, while possessing a fluid, uptempo loading sequence. Has quick hands, while keeping a level bat path through the zone. Was able to generate backspin to the gaps.
Power: 89 mph tee ev. Present gap abilities.
Offensive Projection: Middle of the order/ run proder traits.
Field: Worked out as a SS. Athletic actions, with good footwork and soft hands.
Throw: 88mph arm across the infield. Above average arm strength.
Defensive Projection: 3B/SS

2/09/20

2/9/20 Pitching Delivery Notes: Graveline has very efficient upper half movement patterns. He throws from a ¾ arm slot with a clean, efficient arm action. He has a bit of a crossfire action to his delivery but still moves fairly well through the lower half. Fastball: The fastball was 83-86 mph with some arm side life and fade. Curveball: His breaking ball was 70-73 mph with a curveball shape that bordered on slurvey but somewhat lacked bite and sharpness. Changeup: The changeup was 75-76 mph. Pitchability: Average feel for his stuff but showed overall good athleticism and an ability to command all of his pitches. Secondary pitches still need refinement but the arm works and will add velo as he adds strength and weight to his frame. 2/9/20 Position Player Hit: At the plate Graveline showed good raw physicality. He had a simple approach with quick, strong hands and kept barrel through the zone well. Power: 85 mph exit velocity. Offensive Projection: Long, projectable frame. Has the look of a guy who could develop into a power threat with at least gap to gap potential. Field: Behind the plate Graveline shows quick feet and hands with good footwork. Clean, efficient arm action. Throw: 82 mph from behind the plate. Defensive Projection: Has all the looks of a guy who can make an immediate impact at the next level. Good raw physical tools behind the plate. The bat will dictate how far he can go.

6/03/19

Does a lot of things well on the baseball field. Very good athlete (doubles as a quarterback for football team) that can play multiple positions at a high level. Arm plays a big tool behind the dish and ball skills play up the middle of the infield. Has some minor things to clean up at the plate but has all the physical tools to really hit. On top of that he is also something to take a look at on the mound. Good mover that shows all the signs of a higher velo guy down the road.  Behind the dish, He has soft hands when receiving the baseball.  Blocks well, and has a huge arm.

2/17/19

Body Type: 6-foot, 160 pound athletic frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Delivered the baseball with high intent. Lower half showed minimal load and landed slightly across body. Arm action was loose and on time at foot strike.
Fastball: 81-83 mph. In and out of zone, but showed some of the best life at the event.
Curveball: 69-72 mph. 11-5 shape and commanded well. Still developing, but showed signs of having swing and miss potential.
Changeup: 74-76 mph. Above average pitch that showed consistent arm side run and sink. Commanded well.
Pitchability: In and out of zone with the fastball, but the pitch showed great life. Change-up was the best secondary offering with curveball showing signs being above average.
Additional Comments: One of the top arms in the ‘22 class. With some mechanical adjustments and increased strength, Matt should not only increase velocity, but show off better command.

Swing Mechanics: Narrow, slightly closed off stance in the box. Hand speed created with his uphill bat path. Nice actions overall in his swing process.
Hit: Stroked several baseball with loud contact on his barrel finding it often. Had baseballs jumping off barrel.
Power: 80 mph exit velocity. More to come.
Offensive Projection: Multiple roles.
Run: 7.3 60-yard.
Field: 2.06-2.13 pop time. Footwork shown behind the plate was nice following his quick ball to hand transfer. Receives it very well too.
Throw: 76 mph from behind the plate.

8/01/18

One of the top prospects we’ve come across in the 2022 class. Elite catch and throw abilities behind the dish, bringing well above average athleticism to the position. Also can play middle infield at an above average clip. At the plate he has an athletic swing with more twitch than strength. Very loose hands allow for natural whip through the zone, giving him more authority through contact than you’d expect. Very talented prospect.

6/13/18

A young, talented ball player that is going to be one to look out for over the next few years. Graveline stood out right away for his advanced skill set behind the plate. Brings an unusual amount of athleticism behind the dish and it shows with his catch and throws skill as well as ability to block. At the plate he has an efficient stroke that produces regular line drives. Tools are above average for class with a chance to be dynamic once he twitches up/adds more strength to his very athletic frame.

5/04/18

Graveline was as impressive as any prospect on Day 1. A good athlete with defensive versatility. Plays both the middle infield and catcher position at a high level. A high motor type that plays the game hard consistently. At the plate he hit leadoff for the Legends. The righty had a smooth, efficient loading sequence incorporating athletic/well timed movements. Path is level and swing is compact. Hands show present twitch and strength with more to come. Draws comparisons to Cincinnati commit Joe Powell.

11/18/17

A two-way prospect in the  2022 class. Swings it from the right-side, starting in a taller setup. Goes with an easy back load during his toe turn timing mechanism. Barrel flows through his bat tip load which allows him to create whip and early bat speed. Swing is efficient and any added strength should easily translate. Presently generated 74 mph exit velocity off the tee. Behind the plate he registered pop times of 2.01-2.29 and threw with 65 mph arm strength to second base. On the mound, the right handed pitcher throws through a high 3/4 slot with short arm action. Fastball sits between 72-74 mph while displaying some arm-side run. Breaking ball breaks through a 10/4 plane at 63-65 mph. Uses near fastball arm speed with 68-70 mph changeup.

6/13/17

Behind the dish he starts in a low crouch, showing flexibility to his hips. Gets out of his stance well using clean footwork. Gets in line well during his transfer that had smoothness to it. Arm has some whip to it and he threw with accuracy. Looked very comfortable receiving and blocking in bullpens. Talented young catcher. Very mechanically sound at third base. Moves light on his feet and does a nice job of creating angles to play through the ball with ease. Gains ground well to first base during his transfer. At the plate he starts in a tall, open setup. Initiates load through a smooth leg kick. Barrel maintains fluidity prior to launch. Gets on plane well and creates early bat speed. Path is level and swing is efficient. Expect any added strength with maturity to translate easily to added pop. Solid all-around prospect.

60-yard Dash: 8.51
Infield Velocity: 69
Catcher Velocity: 63
Pop Times: 2.19-2.25
Exit Velocity: 72
