10/22/21

Listed at 6-foot-5, 195-pounds Johnson has a longer frame with still some projection left. Hands work in rhythm to a lower break and longer arm swing. Moves down the mound with level hips and shoulders and lands on line. Normal effort delivery with reliever profile. Johnson sat 90-92 during his short work versus Radford. Showed feel for a 1/7 breaking ball that sat at 78-79 mph.

1/27/19 Pitching

Body Type: 6-foot-5, 195-pound uber projectable frame.

Mechanical/Delivery Notes: What a difference a few months has made for Johnson. The projectable lefty showed up vastly improved since we saw him at TPG.

Fastball: 86-87 mph. Pitch was electric at times. Ball jumps out of his hand with late life through the zone.

Slider: 71-74 mph. Last time we saw him he had to average breaking balls which he now wisely has turned into one well above average one. The slider was impressive, sweeping across the zone with bite to it.

Changeup: 78-79 mph. Not completely there yet but more than playable.

Pitchability: Filled it up.

Role:  Multiple Roles.

6/5/18
6-foot-5, 190-pound, Long-limbed left-handed pitching prospect. Delivery is balanced and efficient. Level shoulders, slightly closed at foot strike. Uses a long arm action working out of a low-¾ slot. Fastball has natural cutting action with some late life to it at 79-82 MPH. Pairs the fastball with a slurvy breaking ball that has 1/7 tilt at 65-68 MPH. If the lower half improves, Johnson could be a candidate for velocity jump.

2/10/18

A southpaw with a very projectable, 6-foot-4 frame. Rolls through his low effort delivery with good tempo. Actions are fluid and easy on the hill. A tall and fall type guy who will land on line to home plate at foot strike, with his momentum carrying him in line. Arm action is long and whippy. Presently sits 79-83 mph, with much more in the tank as he adds strength and learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently. Complements his fastball with a 2/8 shaped breaking ball at 67-69 mph. The pitch shows big action and should develop more depth as velocity increase. Potential to be a well above average offering. Also tosses a changeup with feel, maintaining arm speed at 71-74 mph. An interesting, high upside arm that filled up the zone with all three offerings.
