Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Body Type: 6-foot-1, 160-pound athletic frame with a ton of room to add strength. Swing Mechanics: Balanced stance with a fluid lower half and vertical barrel launch. Hit: Athletic swing. Hands are loose throughout swing sequence allowing for easy whip on a level path. Some inconsistencies in barrel accuracy. Showed the ability to backspin the ball to both sides of the field. Power: 86 mph exit velocity. Has some things to clean up but all the tools are there to be a guy who can consistently drive the gaps and run one out of the park occasionally. Offensive Projection: Multiple Roles w/run producer potential. Run: 6.88 60-yard dash. Field: Moves well in the outfield with obvious athleticism. Gets to the ball in a timely fashion and his infielder background shows as he plays through the ball quickly/effortlessly. Throw: 80 mph from the outfield. An above average arm that has some jump out of the hand. Defensive Projection: CF/LF. Additional Comments: Offers the most raw athleticism on the Canes roster. Burst shows on both sides of the ball. Looks to have made the primary move from infield to outfield which I think will bode well for him.
1/15/18
Ran a 6.82 60-yard dash. In the outfield he looks athletic and fluid in his approach. Plays through the baseball with infielder ball skills. Displayed the arm and functional athleticism to play multiple spots in the outfield. Looks to be a natural infielder. Glove skills stand out and he is able to maintain them on the move. Gets to and through the baseball quickly. Keeps tempo throughout fielding sequence. Solid defender that showed 74 mph arm strength across the diamond and 77 mph arm strength to home plate. A right-handed hitter that starts in a tall setup. Initiates loading sequence through a leg kick movement prior to his controlled stride. Barrel starts flat before getting to a vertical position at swing decision. Load creates energy and natural barrel whip through the zone. Natural tools are above average for class. Has feel in the box and can generate backspin to either field. Has the look of a three-hole guy. Recorded a top exit velocity of 82 mph.
11/18/17
Ran a 4.47 from home to first. Swings it from the right-side, starting in a taller setup. Gets things going with a leg kick load, prior to moving his hands back launch during his stride forward. A twitchy athlete with a compact, line drive swing. Bat shows obvious quickness through the zone and ball comes off well. Puts his strength/bat speed combination on display by registering an exit velocity of 86 mph. A versatile defender that has an above average skill set in both the infield and outfield. Made one of the more impressive plays of the day with his diving play in the infield. Footwork is quick and actions are smooth. Would be aided by creating angles with his feet to play through the baseball more efficiently. Glove skills were above average for class. Threw across the infield with 74 mph arm strength. In the outfield he gets to the ball in a timely fashion and plays through well. His infield background allows him to play efficiently to either side. Threw with 78 mph arm strength to home plate.
7/25/17
A right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. Loading sequence is simple, using a back load during his short stride. Path is level to slightly uphill. Produces solid barrel whip through the zone. Bat speed and strength are both well above average tools for his class. A gap to gap guy with more in there as he fills out projectable frame. Definite young hitter to keep an eye on as he develops physically. On the mound the right-hander has an uptempo delivery that requires some effort. Uses a mid leg lift prior to his drop and drive load. Lands in line to home plate at foot strike. Arm action is shorter with developing arm speed. Arm moves through a high-¾ slot with his fastball staying mostly true through the zone. His primary secondary offering was his 11/5 shaped breaking ball. The pitch showed big, gradual break. Impressed with his pitchability, throwing both offerings in the zone consistently.
A right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Hands stays simple during his lower half movement. Path is slightly downhill with impressive whip through the zone. Bat speed and strength are above average tools for his class. Ball jumped off his bat to both fields. Present gap to gap pop with more to come. In the infield, his footwork is developing. Tends fields the ball on his heels. Body stays square, funnels the ball to his chest, and displays a good transfer. In the outfield, he uses a crow hop to gather downhill momentum. Uses a 3/4 arm slot when throwing the ball from the outfield.
