Colleges in need of arms in the ‘19 class should take a hard look at Szalay. A very physical, 6-foot-7 southpaw with fluid, low effort delivery. Flows smoothly through chest high leg lift into his drop and drive load. Arm is compact and clean through a high-¾ slot. Tosses an easy 77-79 mph fastball. The pitch will run to the outer half. Changeup is thrown with fastball arm speed, showing some dive at 72-74 mph. The pitch grades out as an above average offering. Breaking ball has more noticeable spin than depth on a 1/7 plane 65-66 mph. Threw the pitch consistently in the zone but it has room to sharpen up. Looks to have more velocity to come and he filled up the zone with all three offerings. Combination of upside and pitchability will be enticing to scouts.
