Rhys Francis: RHP/OF, (2022) Shadyside, OH.
6-foot, 180-pound athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, the switch hitter had a max exit velocity of 83 mph. Begins in an athletic open stance with a smooth load, then uses a controlled stride. Upward swing plane. He found some barrels through his rounds. Line drive approach. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.37. Raw on the mound, throws from a ¾ arm angle and has some arm speed. Showed decent effort in his delivery. 2/17/20
2/17/20 Pitching Delivery Notes: Stiff fluid delivery with little to no usage out of the lower half. Inconsistent with arm slots ranging from ¾ to side arm. Fastball: True through the zone at 79mph. Curveball: Shows potential with sharp bite at times at a 12/6 breaking action. Changeup: Slows arm speed down as well as shortens up his arm motion. Little arm side fade. 2/17/20 Position Player Hit: Starts out in a balanced setup. Simple loading sequence creates an on time swing. Slightly uphill bat path long through the zone generating some loft. Power: Line drive type guy. Chance to hit for more power as he fills out. Offensive Projection: TBD with a lean towards table setter. Field: Attacks the ball with intent downhill. Glove skills are playable. Maintains downhill momentum through release. Throw: Developing arm strength through a ¾ arm slot. Defensive Projection: OF.

2/17/19
Body Type: 6-foot, 162 pounds. Taller, thin athlete.
Swing Mechanics: Switch hitter in the boxes. From the left side he showed a narrow, open stance. Uphill bat path path as he rotated through the baseball. On the right side he showed quicker hands with a smooth uphill swing. Looked more comfortable from the right.
Hit: Left side produced barrel action on some pitches more middle. Right side generated louder barrel action as he stayed on pitches.
Power: 83 mph exit velocity from both sides. More power output shown to middle of the field.
Offensive Projection: TBD for now. Has plenty of upside.
Run: 7.59 seconds 60-yard. Field: In the outfield his glovework showed playable actions fielding the ball. Footwork is developing in quickness and approach.
Throw: 76 mph from the outfield showing off his arm strength. Accurate too. Defensive Projection: Outfield - multiple.
2/17/19 Pitching Body Type: 6-foot, 162-pound athletic frame with room to add. Mechanical/Delivery Notes: High-¾ right-hander with loose, slinging arm action. Fluid delivery that is relatively low effort. Fastball: 75-77 mph. Ball comes out easy with fastball staying mostly true through the zone. Curveball: 65-68 mph. Tight, 11/5 shaped offering that is thrown with fastball arm speed. Not a big breaker but enough depth/action to miss barrels. Knuckle Ball: 65-66 mph. Tosses the pitch with feel. Offering shows dance through the zone. Pitchability: Looks to have feel for all three offerings. Additional Comments: Easy delivery with a loose arm that projects for more strength. Definite follow.
2/3/19 Pitching
Body Type: 6-foot 162-pound prospect.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action in the backside. Could clean up the arm by being a little more compact with the arm action.
Fastball: 73-76 mph fastball was mostly true through the zone.
Breaking Ball: 62-63 mph breaking ball showed decent curveball spin. Needs to improve his feel for the pitch but it shows potential.
Knuckleball: 64-65 mph knuckleball showed some ‘dancing’ action with a tumbling depth. Useable pitch at least at the high school level.
Pitchability: Good feel for his three pitch mix.
Role: Present stuff would profile him as a starter for the 2022 class. Curveball shows some potential as he throws harder and gets a better feel for the pitch. Knuckleball is an interesting pitch. Will be interesting to follow to what degree he uses the pitch as he goes through high school.
2/3/19 Position
Body Type: 6-foot 162-pound prospect.
Swing Mechanics: Starts in a narrow, very open stance. Uses a slight toe tap and hover as he loads with a slight lunge forward once his front foot gets down. Slight cast of the barrel around the zone.
Hit: Average bat to ball ability.
Power: 83 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: As a 2022 with solid raw power and a decent swing he would project at least as a potential gap to gap threat assuming he adds strength and size to his frame over the next few years.
Run: 7.36 60 yard dash.
1/12/19 Pitching Body Type: 6-foot, 165-pounds. Long limbed, athletic frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Delivery shows Francis using his athleticism to get into good positions smoothly. Delivery looks low effort with excellent rhythm and timing.
Fastball: Fastball was pretty true through the zone and sat mostly 76-78 mph, while topping at 79 on his last pitch.
Slider: Breaking ball showed a slider shape with good lateral break. Sat in the 67-70 mph range. Pitch would be equally effective with right and left handed hitters.
Changeup: Changeup was 63-65 mph with good, sharp depth. He kills spin on the pitch well and at times the actions resemble a splitter.
Pitchability: Advanced feel and pitchability of three pitches for his age. Especially good feel for changeup at his age.
Future Role: Definite starter type as he progresses with his frame and maturity. Good 3 pitch mix that will progress as he gets older and stronger.
1/12/19 Body Type: 6-foot, 165-pounds. Long limbed, athletic frame. Hit: Right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Fluid load with some moving parts, Balanced swing with some loft to path. Athletic kid with noticeable strength and bat speed. Used the whole field with more natural backspin to the middle. Power: 78 mph exit velocity. Line drive guy with flashes of gap abilities.
Offensive Projection: Skill set plays multiple roles. Could grow into a riun producer role.
Run: 7.42 60-yard dash.
Field: Fluid actions with developing ball skills. Would like to see him eliminate a step between fielding and release.
Throw: 75 mph arm strength to home plate. Arm works. Above average strength with more to come. Inconsistent accuracy.
Defensive Projection: Corner Outfield.
