2/18/18
6-foot-3, 195 pound first base prospect showed quicker feet for his size with nice mobility getting off the bag fielding it. Glovework was smooth with nice hands. Threw with average arm strength across the diamond to third base with a 76 mph throwing velocity. Athletic actions and nice intent provided. At the plate he showed some of the more raw power at the event. Hands stay simple during his leg lift timing trigger. Creates leverage by creating efficient angles to lift the baseball natural. Strength stands out to hands. Does a nice job of having intent in swing without compromising control. Middle of the lineup type bat with much more pop than exit velocity would indicate. Starts on left side of the rubber. Small rocker step into leg lift with inward turn. Fastball tends to be up in the zone with occasional arm side run at 79-80 mph. Curveball works on two-planes with 11/5 break at 68-69 mph. Works as his best secondary offering at present.  Slider has more spin than break at 67-68 mph. Still a developing pitch at present. Changeup shows arm side run at 73-75 mph. Slows down the arm speed a bit, but keeps the pitch in the zone with movement.

1/27/18
6-foot-3, 195 pound first basemen moves very well for his size enabling him to make plays that can challenge his range. Bertke’s quick actions show off his athleticism in the corner and his soft hands allow him to field it very well. On top of his fielding ability, Bertke had one of the stronger arms at 1B with an 78 velocity across the diamond that was effortless and accurate. Offensively Bertke’s swing has average power with an exit velocity of 82. He has an uphill swing that starts and stays in the zone long that gives him the ability to square of plenty of plenty of pitches which he did at event. Bigger sized kid with good strength that will play in college.

1/15/18

On the mound the right-hander has a slower paced tempo to his delivery. Creates deception by inwardly rotating hips at leg lift. Lands slightly closed at foot strike with his momentum carrying him to the first base side at finish. Ball comes out well without requiring much effort, working through a high-¾ slot. Displayed the ability to work both sides of the plate with his 77-80 mph. Breaking ball isn’t a big breaker but the combination of depth and sharpness creates enough action to miss barrels. The spinner a near 12/6 shape at 65-68 mph. Does a nice job of maintaining arm speed on his 72-73 mph changeup. Didn’t show the pitch often but was in the zone when he did. A right-handed hitter that starts in a wider setup. Hands move slightly back during his leg lift timing trigger. A strong kid with above average bat speed. His natural loft allows him to lift the ball regularly, without sacrificing bat speed. Consistently drove the ball with authority in BP. Has the ability to use both sides of the field. Registered a top exit velocity of 79 mph.  Frame fits the first base position, with above average athleticism for the spot. Moves well off the bag will feel for creating angles. Glove skills are more than adequate for the position. Ran a 7.83 60-yard dash and threw across the diamond with 72 mph arm strength.

7/25/17
A right-handed hitter that starts in a wider setup. Loading sequence is simple and creates consistent timing. Path has some loft with advanced strength through contact. Showed feel for the barrel and does a nice job getting on plane early. Present gap pop with much more to come with maturity. The combination of natural loft and physical tools give him potential to grow into a power threat. Brings above average athleticism to the first base position. Gets off the bag well and creates solid angles prior to fielding. Glove works. Projects as an above average defender. On the mound the right-hander has an uptempo delivery that requires some effort. Uses a high leg lift and lands in line to home plate at foot strike. Finishes mostly straight to home plate with the occasional finishes to the first base line. Arm action is long and he works through a high-¾ slot. Fastball comes out of his hand well, staying mostly true through the zone. Spins a 12/6 breaking ball that showed some depth and sharpness. The pitch as at his best when he stayed on top of it.

5/31/17
A contact guy from the right side. Uses a short stride while taking hands to launch. Swing is compact with feel for the barrel. A top of the lineup type guy. Used the middle of the field well. At first base he brings well above average athleticism to the position. Moves off the bag very well. Glove skills are average at this stage. Would be aided by fielding the ball out in front of his body on plays in his funnel. On the mound the right-hander has a slower pace tempo to a delivery he is able to repeat. Uses an inward turn at the top of his balance point to create deception. Works through a near over the top slot with average arm speed. Fastball was mostly straight through the zone, with slight run at times at 74-75 mph. Spins an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with sharpness at 64-67 mph. Showed obvious confidence in the pitch, throwing it in the zone in any count. Was able to use the pitch to get ahead and put away hitters.
