A 6-foot-2, 205-pound durable frame. On the mound, works only from the stretch, starting from an narrow and closed set position before using a high-energy and uptempo delivery. Arm action is fast with moderate length in the back and a quick change of direction before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 82-85 mph, commanded to both sides of the plate, almost all strikes. Curveball has 12/6 shape with consistent depth, 71-73 mph, almost all strikes. Changeup shows some fade, mostly strikes, 75-76 mph. Overall, Armstrong’s advanced command and three pitch mix will prove valuable at the next level.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-hander did not have his best stuff on this night, giving up six runs, but did show flashes of why he is one of the best uncommitted 2018 arms in Oklahoma. Fastball sat 81-84 mph and touched 85 and mixed a curveball 68-72 mph with near 12/6 shape. Changeup showed some fade in the mid 70s.
