7/10/22

2022 MLB Draft: After Tommy John surgery in February of 2021, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander returned to the mound this spring. With gradual improvement each outing since his 2022 debut on March 29 against Oklahoma State, Horton took this improvement to an even greater level at the CWS against Notre Dame. His consistent mid-90s, high-spin heat touched 98 and he dominated the Irish with a good slider and a swing/miss curveball. The two breakers are distinct and both flash plus-to-better on the pro scale. His 85-88 mph slider and 81-84 mph curve can be devastating weapons, and his fastball overpowering, bumping 97-98 and sitting at 94-95 deep into the game. Remarkably, the slider is still a very new pitch for him, and it might already be his best weapon. Having learned the pitch the Tuesday prior to the Big 12 championship game, it now looks like a legitimate plus-plus offering on the big league scale with late, tight bite and spin rates above 2800 rpm. He looked like a first-round talent in the Notre Dame game, and given the lack of pitching in this class (particularly due to all the injuries), somebody might just be willing to bet on Horton's talent.

8/13/18

Ole Miss recruit, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic right-hander, with a quick arm delivering out of a high ¾ slot down in the zone came out at 90-92, touching 93 mph, and countered it with a nasty, 76-79 slider that has future plus-potential

2/11/17

A 6-foot, 165-pound lean projectable frame. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, flat, line drive approach. Hits from a very narrow stance, slight leg kick, keeps his hands tight and inside the baseball, 78 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.39 laser-timed 60. Defensively, Horton is one of the best defenders of his class in the state, showing athletic actions, soft, consistent, sure hands, and advanced rhythm. Throws from multiple angles with accuracy, elite arm strength for his age, 84 mph across the diamond multiple times.

6-6-17

A 6-foot, 165-pound frame with some wiry strength and room to grow. On the mound, works from a simple and smooth up-tempo delivery with a high leg kick. Throws from a high-3/4 slot with looseness and arm speed. Fastball keeps its plane at 86-89 mph, commanded in the strike zone. Slider is a new pitch for him that he uses to put hitters away, 73-75 mph with late 10/4 shape and depth.

5-31-17

A 6-foot, 165-pound frame with wiry strength and plenty of room to add size and strength. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a narrow and open set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Uses a hanging leg kick for timing, moderate stride, and quick hands with barrel control. In BP, shows a gap to gap approach with some lift and occasional pop, 82 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.34 60. Defensively, shows advanced hands and feet, elite athleticism on the slow roller and backhand play, throws from multiple slots, 78 mph at this event, has been reported up to 87 across the diamond, with accuracy. In the game, went 0-for-2 with a deep fly ball to center.
