Picking up where he left off after the Vanderbilt series, the 6-foot-1, 195 pound Phansalkar continued to show a power arsenal against Gonzaga. The low three-quarter slot right-hander took the extra-inning loss on Saturday, but not before showing the dozens of scouts in attendance an electric fastball ranging from 93-96 with a spin rate consistently in the mid-2400s. The late, hard armside life with nearly two feet of horizontal break is touch to harness, giving him more control than command of the pitch. Phansalkar also mixed in a low-80s slider with tight spin (2600s) and a tumbling changeup in the low-80s, but his fastball is his calling card. He profiles as a reliever at the next level.

A late-bloomer with real major league upside, Phansalkar started his career at Arizona but missed his freshman year in 2018 after having Tommy John surgery, and his rehab sidelined him for all of 2019 at Oklahoma State instead. He made two bullpen appearances in 2020 before the season was canceled, then made 13 relief appearances in 2021, walking 18 against 14 strikeouts in 17 innings. But once he ditched his four-seamer in favor of his trademark turbo sinker, the light clicked on. He showed big-time stuff in fall ball, and he carried his electric stuff over to this weekend, in a strong four-inning relief appearance at Vandy. A low three-quarters righty, Phansalkar sat 95-97 in his first inning of work, showing crazy arm-side run, with horizontal break up to 25 inches on TrackMan. Phansalkar also mixed in a sharp low-80s slider with tight spin (in the 2600s) and a good tumbling changeup at 82, but his fastball is his calling card, and he pitches off it heavily. Arm action is free, easy, and whippy out front. Fastball was 88-91 mph with slight arm-side run, just short of the 92 mph he has touched previously. Slider showed a high spin rate of 2900 with big depth at 78-80 mph.

He pitched a stress-free inning and was in total control.
