Shapiro, a 6-foot, 175-pound CF/LHP, impacted the game on both ends on Opening Day. In the outfield, Shapiro gets a quick first step, takes correct routes and covers ground, as seen on a flyball into right-centre where on a diving attempt he came up just short of making a tremendous backhanded catch. Later in the game, down by four, he stayed on a sinking fastball, keeping his hands back and making solid contact, hitting a double that sliced into the left-centre gap to clear the bases and put his club within reach in the last half. In game two, Shapiro came in relief, and on a cold night hovered around 80 mph, having been up to 84 mph in the past. He spun a few downer curveballs with depth, a strikeout pitch for him. Shapiro is an interesting two-way player who we will be seeing a lot more of during the course of the summer.
