Alvarez was 84-87 with his fastball and really showed a loose and easy arm stroke with a lean, athletic build and delivery. The slider was 76-77 and backed up on him a little bit but there is some feel for the pitch and can see him polishing it up with the stuff and actions he portrays. The upside is really intriguing here as the fastball is going to continue to add velocity and the body is only going to get stronger. A 2022 arm that can also swing the bat, Alvarez showed this weekend he is one of the top 2022 talents available in Canada for college coaches.
Long and lean, uncommitted 2022 David Alvarez looks the part. It’s super raw all over the diamond, but there’s a lot of room to grow into his 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Alvarez starts in a slightly open stance with high hands, and he drops his hands a bit but gets on plane enough to lift the ball. Defensively the arm plays in the outfield, and while he doesn’t move extremely well yet, it doesn’t look like he’s near a finished product.
