Cerantola, a 6-foot-5 righty with enormous potential, flashed high-90s heat out of the Mississippi State bullpen as a freshman, then spent the summer refining his pitchability in the Perfect Game Collegiate League and with Team Canada. In the summer, he located better at 93-95 and showed the makings of a true power curveball and a very promising changeup. In our early-season look this spring, Cerantola ran his heater up to 96-97 mph in the first inning, and sat comfortably at 91-93 for five innings, with good arm-side run at times down in the zone. He showed better command to his glove side but tended to miss arm side and up against lefthanded hitters. His mechanics remain a work in progress, as he tends to finish off balance and falls across his body. Cerantola’s big downer breaking ball was mostly below-average on this look but flashed above-average, with good power in the 79-84 mph range. He also showed very good feel for a diving changeup at 81-84. Cerantola’s arm is fresh, and his upside is enormous; he just needs to continue refining his feel for pitching.

The big right-hander has continued to improve and become more comfortable with his delivery, arm action has smoothed out and fastball was up to 90 mph on a cold, windy day. Threw some overhand curveballs with depth and 12/6 shape that had late biting action at 75 mph. Uses size to work downhill and create good angles, made quick work of hitters and used breaking to finish and put guys away. Top pitching prospect in the 2018 class.

Big 6-foot-5, 195-pound right-hander, over the head delivery from the full, easy tempo and repeats. Arm clean in the back, uses height to work downhill and get leverage, fastball works between 84-87 mph, curveball 71-73 mph with 11/5 shape, will flash nice feel with downward action, limited viewing of changeup. Body very projectable and what you look for in pitcher, still raw and lacks innings as he is elite hockey player as well. Will see how he develops, chance to be one of top arms in the province in his age class.
