Mercado is a powerful 6-foot-2, 225-pound right-hander. He goes after hitters with his fastball, overpowering a lot of the competition he sees with a 87-89 mph fastball. His secondary offerings still need refining, but he has showed some feel for both his changeup and curveball. Mercado is one of the hardest throwers in his class and is the 4th ranked overall righty. He recently committed to Connors State JC.

Mercado is a big and strong 2021 with present strength at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds. Fastball has been up to 87 mph this summer and he shows signs of being able to spin his breaking ball in the low 70's. The arm is clean and gets out-front, while his fastball has a little extra jump at times and was able to use up in the zone. At the plate, Mercado's strength plays presently as there is bat speed to work with. He can lose his foundation at times and get off-balance, but his size and frame allow us to be patient. One of the top prospects in the 21' class, Mercado will only add polish to game and be a fun player to follow over the next few years.
