Attending the New Year Open and Canadian College & University showcase for a second time, Will Anderson, a 2021 R/R catcher showed big strides on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he is more in control of the body, and quicker transitioning the ball from glove to hand. Arm strength is improving but throws were much more consistent, showing carry and good accuracy. At the plate, Anderson looks to have improved his bath path and as he was able to elevate the baseball with more ease and strength in BP.
2/18/19
A short and stocky catcher, Anderson is a strong player out of Niagara District Tier 1 COBA. Anderson has a solid base at the plate allowing the rest of his swing work with consistency. It’s a line-drive stroke where Anderson shows the ability to use the whole field. Behind the plate there is quickness with 76 mph arm strength resulting in 2.03-2.13 pop-times. Anderson is a well-rounded backstop who is only a 2021 and will be a good watch going forward.
Niagara University Campus Series (July 3, 2018) Narrow stance in the box, hips drift forward on the pitch, hands drop to the zone with a mostly level barrel plane. Defensively, soft hands, moves with confidence, strong footwork, high 3/4 release with 2.33 pop-time. The better his arm-strength gets the lower that time will be. Advanced for a 2021.
