Cyphert is a LHP/OF from Cranberry HS. He went 5-2, with a 2.45 ERA and one save as a freshman in 2012. Cyphert recorded 67 strikeouts in 48.1 innings of work over 10 appearances. He was selected to 1st-Team All-Conference for his work.
10/27/14 Against the Homeplate Chilidogs, Cyphert pitched four innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit. He struck out four while sitting in the mid 80s with a 68-70 curveball.
8/24/14 Cyphert has done a nice job adding strength to his frame (now 6 feet, 185 pounds) that previously resembled rail-thin former big-leaguer and Texas A&M star Casey Fossum. Ranked sixth in Pennsylvania's 2015 class, Cyphert pitches with a quick arm and up-tempo, attacking delivery that features a little hop at the top of his balance point. He pounded the strike zone (70 percent strikes) with his fastball at 84-87 and was able to get in on right-handed hitters. The Pittsburgh recruit has improved his slurvy breaking ball over the past year and a half, although it still has some ways to go before becoming a true out-pitch.
2/23/13 Cyphert had one of the top bullpen sessions of any pitcher at the event. The 6-foot, 170-pound lefty sat 85-87 with excellent arm speed out of a high 3/4 arm slot. His fastball lacked significant movement but did show late life. Cyphert also commanded a 66 mph curveball and a 79 mph changeup. With additional work on his complimentary pitches Cyphert could become one of the prized left-handed pitching recruits in this class.
1/26/13 One week after impressing from the mound in Erie, PA, Cyphert made the trip across state to showcase his abilities as a two-way player. The 6-foot, 170-pound lefty displayed athletic actions in the outfield and good carry on throws of 82 mph to home plate. Offensively, he used a 74 mph bat exit velocity to consistently line baseballs to the pull side. His performance on the mound had everyone in attendance buzzing. Following a fellow Class of 2015 left-hander to the mound, Cyphert showed his competitive nature by amping up his velocity from a week earlier. He sat 83-85 while touching 87 mph on three occasions with his fastball. Cyphert also commanded a 68 mph curveball and a 78 mph changeup.
1/19/13 Cyphert was as good as advertised during his bullpen session. The 6-foot, 170-pound lefty used solid mechanics and a quick arm to produce a fastball that sat 82-84 with some arm side run. Cyphert showed the makings of a plus curveball that has a 1/7 break and tight rotation.  Some minor adjustments to the pitch could make it an excellent out pitch. Cyphert's changeup sat 69-71 with a bit of cutting action. With continued physical progress and improvements to his complimentary pitches, the sophomore has the potential to be a highly recruited prospect in the Class of 2015.
