6/11/19

6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed an above average feel for the barrel while consistently staying behind the baseball. Registered an 82 mph bat exit velocity and went 2-for-7 in game action over two days. Ran a 7.46 60-yard dash and displayed solid actions around the bag at first base with 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 76-77 out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showcased a curveball at 65-66 with 11/5 rotation and a changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed at 70-72. Did not allow a run in three innings of work while allowing two hits and striking out three.

9/30/18

Defensively, as middle infielder attacks and works through the ball creating optimal hops and angles. Funnels bottom up with confident hands. Showed 72 mph, accurate arm on throws across the diamond.

Offensively, 6-foot-1, 185 pound, left-handed hitter initiates swing from neutral set up with lift and replace stride. Weight shift and hip turn are aggressive. Stays behind ball and rotates into a firm front side achieving solid leverage. Bat path is slightly uphill. A bat exit velocity of 83 mph was registered.

6/20/18

Defensively, feet work well to and through the baseball. Hands are soft and confident working out front and bottom up. Shows understanding of using feet in achieving optimal hops and angles. Overall, demonstrated makings of solid middle infield defender with improved arm strength. VanWhy would benefit from emphasizing quickening his hands in transfer and shortening throwing motion in allowing arm to play up.

6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitter initiates swing from open set up striding to neutral without gaining ground. Separation is reduced by passive back elbow in load and low launch position of hands. Overall, lower half mechanics are excellent with aggressive weight shift and hip turn followed by backside release into firm front side. There is substantial athleticism, balance and rhythm. Mechanical changes in load have potential to allow VanWhy to develop into a formidable offensive player. He registered an 81 MPH bat exit velocity.
