8/19/16 Middle infielder made the defensive play of the tournament when he ranged to his glove side behind the second base bag to make a diving stop and scrambled to his feet to make a solid throw across the diamond for the first out of the silver bracket semifinal game. The 5-foot-8, 140-pounder flashed above average defensive skills throughout the course of the tournament. He has good feet and body control with an ability to make the slow roller play in rhythm. While his offensive results were limited, his hands work and he flashed some bat speed. Undersized in stature, Chapman has all the intangibles to have success at the next level.
2/14/15 Chapman is a fundamentally sound defender that could progress rapidly as his 5-foot-6, 125-pound frame matures. The sophomore showcased improving feet (7.38 60-yard dash) and an accurate 74 mph arm across the diamond. Chapman is a right-handed hitter that starts from a wide base and uses a lift and replace stride, occasionally getting to the front side early. Chapman's flat swing path allows him to stay in the hitting zone for extended periods of time with a bat exit velocity of 72 mph. Improved strength and physical maturation should lead to improved barrel whip in coming years.
9/28/14 Chapman is a 5-foot-4, 110-pound middle infielder that plays far bigger than his physical size. The sophomore displayed sound mechanics and an accurate 73 mph arm across the diamond defensively. Chapman ran a 7.53 60-yard dash and flashed a consistent line drive approach at the plate with a bat exit velocity of 69 mph. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilized a lift and replace stride while barreling the baseball routinely in batting practice.
6/25/14 Chapman hits from a slightly open stance and showed good rhythm with a short swing path that led to a bat exit velocity of 70 mph. The 5-foot-4, 110-pound right-handed hitter 4-for-7 in game play barreling the baseball in all but one at bat. Chapman showed fluid actions defensively with the ability to make plays on the move and a 68 mph arm across the diamond. Chapman impressed in all facets of the game and will only get stronger as his body physically matures.
