Cape Cod- Slender bodied lefty strike-thrower with a high three-quarter release point. A plus changeup is his top weapon. With consistent, hard finish with late bottom to the 82-85 mph offering it was a swing/miss pitch. Spin rates were in the 1500-1675 rpm range as he repeated the pitch down in the zone. His 87-89 mph fastball showed some tail and sink. Jean also mixed in a flat but effective 79-81 mph slider that also found the zone consistently.
Jean, a 6-foot-1, 160-pound left-hander out of Quebec worked two innings at the ProCase and not long after committed to Alabama University. Jean has been a workhorse for his ABC Club team, as well the Canadian Junior National Team. The arm is clean, the body projects for size and muscle, and Jean has command of 3 pitches and can spin the baseball. He works in the mid 80s but has ran his FB up to 88 and it's easy to see him add and maintain more. The curveball can be swing and miss in the 73-76 range, 1/7 shape and good feel to both sides of the plate. Will throw changeup basically anytime and works well off his FB. High compete and pitchability, big upside here with Jean.
