Cape CodGordon emerged as a workhorse in the Clemson rotation last season, putting up a 4.61 ERA in a team-leading 84 innings. In three starts for Brewster this summer after a stint on the training camp roster for the Collegiate National Team, he had a 4.50 ERA in 12 innings. Gordon has a pro body at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds and can throw the kitchen sink at batters. He throws a four-seam and a two-seam version of a low-90s fastball, a high-80s cutter, a curveball in the high 70s that spins at more than 2,700 rpm, a slider that reaches the low 80s and a splitter in the mid-to-high 80s. Even in the windup, Gordon begins standing closed off on the mound with just a short step to the side before beginning a quick delivery to the plate. Gordon has a lot going for him, but he gives up a decent amount of contact and that hurt him in the spring to the tune of allowing 15 doubles and 19 home runs. Finding a way to miss more bats will be crucial to avoid a repeat of that kind of consistent hard contact in 2024.

USA CNT: Creates leverage and gets down the mound with a 90-93 mph fastball and adds in a 76-78 curve and a 87-89 cutter. Without a dominant pitch at this point in his development, there’s a ton of potential and projection in his long 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame as Gordon looks to be figuring things out and has early Day Two potential next July.

8/01/19

6-3, 175lb frame with long limbs and wiry athleticism. Stretch exclusive, got to a balance point at the belt with no one on base. Showed a quicker knee to knee leg lift with runners on. Rotates slightly at the top of the balance point before working down the mound to get his extension. Stabs the hand on the backside, loading the scaps, and slightly abbreviating the arm arc. Lands slightly closed of his line and gets to a OTT arm slot creating some deception. Repeated the delivery well for a player with his length. Controlled the FB from 85-87 in the lower half of the zone to the corners and showed ability to elevate with intent. CB has potential to develop into a plus pitch. Slot remains the same but he gets around the pitch at times. At its best it has some serious late bite and 11/5 shape at 69-73. Big time winner at the 2019 FG pounding the zone and striking out 4 batters in his two innings of work
