6/14/17 - H-1B: 4.65, Position Velocity: 75, Exit Velocity: 82
5’10, 190-pound, LHH once again showed a well-rounded game and ability to compete. Brooks showed a little less movement at the plate than we’ve seen from him in the past, but was still able to get the barrel through the ball on a slightly uphill path through the zone. Taking away some of that pre-pitch movement has reduced the rhythm in his swing. Short but strong frame generates some strength through contact and can show gap power from time to time. Defensively, a solid 1B with good footwork around the bag. Picked a number of balls thrown by middle infielders and made a few plays of his own in game action. Brooks 1-3 with a triple and 2 walks in game play.
6/14/17 - Max FB: 74, FB: 72-74, CB: 65-69, CH: 67-68,
5-foot-10, 190-pound, LHP has a strong and stout frame and competes on both sides of the baseball. Brooks uses a lot of movement in his motion, utilizing a high leg lift that seemingly gets him up on his toes before dropping and driving toward the plate. He uses an in-line stride and a slightly longer arm action through a high ¾ slot. Fastball was pretty straight but was thrown for strikes and his curveball showed 2/8 shape through the zone. Changeup was a change of pace.
1/16/17 - Max FB: 76, FB: 74-76, CB: 67-69, CH: 68-70,
5-foot-10, 185-pound, LHP begins his motion a little slower but builds up to an aggressive movement toward the plate, higher leg lift gets him to the top and creates some slight shoulder tilt before heading home, stride lands very slightly closed, arm action begins long and slings through a high ¾ slot before he finishes out front and under control. Fastball was pretty straight, curveball had some late movement with 2/8 shape, changeup actually showed some cut at the end.
1/16/17 - 60 Time: 7.66, Position Velocity: OF-72, IF-69, Exit Velocity: 87
5-foot-10, 185-pound, LHH showed very much the same as we saw him at our Border Battle Games in the fall with some increased arm strength and exit velo, hit from the same balanced and even stance and continues to use that smaller and efficient leg kick to get his lower half engaged, swing plane didn’t show as much lift as we saw previously but was still able to find the barrel consistently, good bat speed produces gap power with a potential to add more in the next couple of years. Defensively, moves well around the bag and showed hands around the bag, more athletic than most 1B, plays through the ball well and gets rid of the ball efficiently through a high ¾ slot with accurate throws. Pushing himself up the 2019 ranks.
10/16/16 - Home-1st: 4.62, Position Velocity: IF - 70, Exit Velocity: 83
5-foot-10, 185-pound, LHH showed a ton of improvement since the last time we saw him at an event, this from a balanced and mostly even stance, uses a leg kick with a short stride and a pretty smooth movement back with his hands to get loaded, lower half fires well and clears his hips easily and fluidly, bat patch gets on plane early and comes through the zone on a slightly upward path through the ball, hit some balls hard in BP and drove a couple into the wind to the right center gap. Defensively, showed good hands with average footwork around the bag, played through the ball aggressively but could’ve been smoother, shorter arm action delivered fairly accurate throws across the infield with average strength. Brooks had some great at bats and recorded 3 walks in game play.
10/25/15 - The 5 foot 9, 180-pound prospect posted a 7.91 60 time and had a 78 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Brooks shows short arm action, accuracy on throws, average arm strength, average hands and footwork around the bag. Offensively Brooks showed better bat speed in BP from the left side than 72 mph exit velocity indicates. Brooks hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, shows some hand quickness, good use of lower half, has good balance, has an aggressive approach and attacks the baseball, Brooks went 1 for 4 at the plate with a double and will be a left-handed bat to watch over the next few years. On the mound, the LHP works through a ¾ arm slot with loose arm action, normal effort in delivery, fastball sat 73-75 mph with significant arm-side run. He showed a curveball with short 1/7 action at 66-68 mph, stuck with the two-pitch mix and consistently throws strikes. Brooks stayed away in the zone for most of his outing and produced weak contact. He had one strikeout in one inning pitched during game play.
