07.25.17 - Toney was impressive at the South Texas Underclass games, recording two punchouts in as many innings. There is still plenty of projection in his lanky, long-limbed 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame. The left-hander has a quick arm and clean release out front, working from a high-¾ slot he hides the ball well with a slight wrap behind him. He commands his fastball for strikes at 82-85 mph. His fastball varies in movement, flashing cut to his glove side and arm side run occasionally. Shows good feel for his curveball with 2/8 shape at 70-72 mph, the pitch has depth and should continue to develop into a plus pitch. He throws his changeup with fastball arm speed and depth at 76-78 mph. With his quick arm stroke, deception, projectable long-limbed frame, and ability to throw three pitches for a strike, Toney will make a great addition to a recruiting class.

07.18.17 - The stable of arms running out of Cy-Ranch HS seems to have no end. Toney looks slightly taller than his listed 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, and has a lean-muscular, athletic, projectable frame. The left-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a quick arm stroke. He gets his hand out front on release and locates very well to his glove side, not missing arm side once. His fastball ranged from 81-83 mph with good life. When he did miss the zone it was down to his glove side with life. He throws a hard curveball with 1-7 shape and excellent depth at 68-69 mph. Both his FB and CB come from the same window of release. His changeup is a solid pitch at 75-77 mph, and flashes depth and fade. With his athletic frame, quick arm, and ability to spin his curveball, he would be a great pickup for a college recruiting class.

05.19.17 - 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. The left-hander entered the game in relief. His arm works, fastball was approximately in the low-to-mid 80’s with a sharp 12-6 curveball. Although his command may have been a bit of a question mark during this outing, we are looking forward to seeing him again this summer.
