His fastball clocked in at 82-84 mph, T85, while his curveball sat from 66-72 mph, and his circle changeup was 75-78 mph. Carver’s off-speed helped him force favorable contact from the Johnson hitters and keep his pitch count to 30 in his 2.1 IP. Carver’s foremost pitch, a 12-6 curveball has good spin, and can vary in depth. He is able to successfully utilize his elevated fastball early in counts and draw a lot of swings when the curveball is on.
03.06.17 - 6-foot, 170-pound frame. Coming from a compact, straight-line delivery with a ¾ arm slot, the left-hander has an aggressive tempo on the mound and a big-time breaking ball. His fastball, which started off at 83-84 mph, settling in at 81-83 mph. Carver’s fastball seemed to jump on hitters as he hides the ball behind his body as he propels down the mound. He is able to utilize some lateral run when he places the ball on the armside half of the plate, but the fastball flattens out as he pulls across his body. He showed a circle-changeup at 73-76 mph with substantial vertical drop. The best tool in Carver’s arsenal is a big-breaking curveball that he is able to throw with a variation in speeds according to the situation. The pitch can range from 67 to 74 mph. Carver turns to the pitch when he is ahead in the count or when runners are on base, and he has great feel for it under pressure. Carver gave Reagan 5 strong innings and only suffered one hiccup when he gave up a home run in the bottom of the first inning. The only other runners to reach base did so by walk (2) or error (2). Carver highlighted the evening with 9 strikeouts.
