Early March 2018 - 2018 RHP Coy Cobb (Katy HS, TX) got the start for the Tigers, and would punch out 10 in five innings of work allowing two runs on five hits. The tall right-hander stands 6-foot-4, 175-pounds with lean muscle throughout. He touched 93 mph in the first inning, and worked 88-91 throughout most of the game. Featuring a slight stab in the back to start his arm swing, Cobb lost his high ¾ release point some, but showcased the athleticism necessary to make adjustments in finding it the majority of the time. His feel for his secondary offerings allowed him to get out of jams, and he showed confidence in throwing his slider in any count. The slider worked best when thrown at 78-80, and featured tight spin with tilt. It was a swing and miss offering at times, and enabled Cobb to rack up some big strikeouts. He flipped in an 11/5 curveball for strikes at 70-74, and while it was effective in slowing down hitters, it morphed with his slider at times into more of a slurve. Cobb’s pace was slower throughout the delivery, and he struggled to get into a rhythm with longer gaps between pitches. He has a clean, simple delivery, and perhaps his best attribute is his poise and controlled aggression. Cobb looks the part of a fighter on the mound, and possesses that “winning DNA” as he blasted a home run early in the game, and hammered a double in extra innings to drive in the run that would end the game in a 3-3 tie.

06.26.17 -  6-foot-4, 195-pound frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a quick arm stroke and some effort in his up-tempo delivery as he separates his hand late. His fastball was 88-90 mph, while his slider ranged from 75-78 mph with sharp downward tilt. His changeup was 80-82 mph.

8/21/19: Showed a 91-93 mph fastball, average 80-82 mph changeup which played up with his command of the pitch and a below average 79-81 mph spiked breaking ball. He pitches from a high slot with stiffness to his arm action during the game, but was much looser in the pen during warmups when he was not always reaching back for more. (Seifert)

10/14/18Coy Cobb was touched up some too despite hitting 94 MPH multiple times and flashing a potential plus changeup with some arm-side fade that at times seemed to hit the brakes on hitters in the batter’s box. Cobb, a product of Katy High School, gave up three runs on three hits with a walk in his lone inning on the mound. With some length in his arm action out of a 6-4 frame, Cobb will have to learn how to get to his breaking ball consistently, but his arm works well enough out front to generate movement and angle to his fastball along with a future weapon in the changeup.
