9.23.18
The right-hander has a projectable, durable frame at 6-foot-4, 220-pounds. Working from a high-¾ slot with a clean arm swing, his fastball was 85-88. Also threw a sharp breaking slider at 76-77 with short, late 11/5 shape. Mixed in a changeup with fastball arm speed at 76-78.
10.28.17
Barta has a strong, projectable, broad chested frame at 6-foot-4, 225-pounds. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a clean arm stroke, short circle in the back and quick arm out front. Tall and fall delivery, lands square with an athletic lower half finish. His fastball topped out 85 mph, sitting mostly 82-84 mph. Showed a sharp curveball 71-73 with 11/5 shape and good downward bite. Also flashed a solid changeup with arm side depth at 75 mph. With his projectable frame, quick arm, and ability to spin a curveball, Barta is a junior that college recruiters will want to keep a close eye on this spring.
A two-way player and right-handed hitter, Barta generates a ton of leverage and power with loose hands and bat speed (91 mph). Athletic setup with relaxed rhythm, pushes back with a smooth load and reverse leg lift as he triggers his hands back. Lands aggressive into his front side with an athletic launch position. Quick hands through the zone on a flat path. Good extension with strength at contact. Shows good power during batting practice creating lift to the pull side gap. At first base, Barta has a clean, high-¾ arm swing and threw 86 mph across the diamond with accuracy.
09.30.17 - Barta has a strong, projectable frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-4, 225-pounds. A two-way player and right-handed, Barta threw 86 mph from the outfield and posted an exit velocity of 89 mph, showing good leverage and power during batting practice. On the mound, the right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a long arm stroke and quick arm back to front. Although his fastball only topped out at 83 mph, he did throw 86 on the infield, and could see a jump in velocity in the future.
