06.06.17 - Schields continued to impress on Tuesday at The Houston Top Prospect Games, showing polished defensive actions with quick footwork, clean exchanges, and an accurate arm. Schields has excellent feel for both positions in the middle of the field, and can start and finish the double play quickly, and accurately. A switch-hitter, Schields has a contact approach and showed the ability to handle the bat.

5-foot-10, 160-pound, lean, athletic frame. Schields plays second base for Ranch, but shows quick-twitch actions during I/O with smooth footwork, quick exchanges and the ability to throw from different arm slots when finishing the pivot at second. Schields has the look of a player that could transition to shortstop with ease, and at worst, has the ability to stay on the infield at the next level. Listed as a switch hitter, Schields only batted from the right side on Tuesday, and even though he didn’t have much to show for it, he did square up one ball to right field .

5-foot-10, 150-pound frame. Athletic, live body player with well defined lower half and strong hands. The switch hitter has a quite rhythm and a small leg kick from both sides of plate and shows a loose finish of the barrel with a solid lower-half transfer. Defensively has a short quick arm with solid arm action, quick transfer, good hands and glove action and can throw on the run. Ran a 7.2 60-yard dash.
