81.0
Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Compact athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Offensively it was a short compact stroke that worked gap to gap in approach and showed a feel for the barrel. Posted some above average metrics on the day displaying bat speed with a 64.7 mph average and had the best exit velo during his BP session at 91 mph. Really got to lock in on Riles on the mound and what stood out most is movement on the fastball. Consistent cut action to a 79-82 mph fastball that stands the chance to miss barrels as well as induce bad contact. Fastball spin rate was up as high as 2430. Also, featured a hard changeup that could use more action, but possesses the arm speed and intent to turn into a solid secondary pitch. Has a chance on the mound, as well as contributing as a positional player.
2/16/20
Preseason All-State II
Riles is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, bat is quick, slightly uphill line drive swing path, exit velocity was 89. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields a good base and above average hands. Clean exchange, works through the ball, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, velocity was 81. Ran a 4.66 home to first. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, breaks long and shortens up during a loose quick arm action, some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with a fall off finish. Fastball was 79-81, touching 82, with some run to armside. Curveball had good armspeed and sharp 11/5 break at 64-66. Change-up had good armspeed and was 76-77 with armside run.
