6-foot-4, 202-pounds, Virginia recruit. Athletic frame with upside and current strength. Simple side step delivery, rhythm and tempo throughout, lands open. Aarm action is clean and compact from a high three-quarter slot. Arm works and will continue to tick up velo. Fastball sat 89-90 with slight arm side run, occasionally cut it. Command average, but wasn't missing by a lot. Breaking ball has gradual break, 75-76, slows down arm speed, 11/5 shape. Potential to be a better pitch. Threw a few change-ups that were really good at 81 with arm side sink. With his frame and arm action, he should continue to climb.
4/18/17 - George Wythe starter Avery Mabe, a freshman 6-foot-4 UVA commit, was 84-87mph throughout the game, but did touch 89 three times. His breaking ball was 71-73mph and a change-up at 63-65mph. He was the victim of a small strikezone during the game and kept his composure throughout.
