Left-hander Donovan Burke got the ball for the Game Two start. He battled for four innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out four. His go to pitch was a lively upper-80s fastball that cut and sank, running into right handed batters. From a three-quarter slot Burke mixed in an occasional 81-82 fringe quality changeup, a 77-81 flat slider and rushed a 74 mph curveball during his 56-pitch outing. He also showed an excellent pickoff move that shut down the ‘Noles running game.
Preseason All-State 2/17/18: Burke is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that still has projection to it. Throws with a drop and drive delivery from a three-quarters arm slot, longer free arm action that is quick, throws with some effort. Shoulders level and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 81-84 with boring action to his armside and some downward plane to it. Change-up was 74-75 with sinking action to it. Curveball has hard sharp 1/7 break to it and good armspeed at 69-71.
